I feel like it both poisoned it but gave me a reason to try things. I kind of love and hate if. The thing I like about RA is it tracks “beaten” games so having it on whilst playing just builds a catalogue of what you’ve finished. But as long as it’s optional this is a good thing imo.

Second movie was LEE CRONIN’s THE MUMMY (2026) which is basically the standard Blumhouse spooky haunted house/possession movie with a tinge of Egyptian theming and a heck of a lot of gore. Interesting in part but ultimately didn’t work well for me. Props for Arabic language and Egyptian actors tho.

Double cinema trip today: AKIRA (1988), I haven’t seen since I was about 11 or 12 and revisiting it in the stunning remaster was amazing. This film looks and feels so good. Also the story made a lot more sense to 37-yo me.

I fully agree. But also I’ve thought about this recently - people don’t get as worked up by a 3/5 as a 6/10. Mathematically the same but is doesn’t FEEL the same, which is why I prefer the 5-point scale. Why do we need such levels of gradient.

Thanks - yeah specifically these sounded interesting but there’s a whole world that just hasn’t been covered in much detail by mainstream media in the west that I’d love to explore.

Side-note: I didn’t realise until recently that this WAS a boomer shooter and straight away thought how incongruous that was with the aesthetic and tone they seemed to be going for.
