Climate change is pushing Tornado Alley north and east and I don't think there's actual data yet, but my sniffer is telling me that it's also leading to more nighttime tornados, and y'all, none of us are ready for it (night tornadoes are THE worst; I mean, watch this video)
Update! We have confirmed the earlier report of four deaths connected to the Lena tornado earlier was not accurate. So far, no deaths confirmed there or elsewhere!

As someone who lived near railroad tracks growing up, I also thought jet engines were a better comparison. But yeah, Kankakee was a whole different beast...
Curious what nearby tornados sounds like? While we can't see the funnel itself, the 03/10/2026 Kankakee twister was close enough to hear its explosive roar. Many compare the sound of a tornado to a freight train or jet engine.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has given the Aroma Park/Lake Village #tornado a preliminary EF-3 rating. "A EF-3 tornado tracked 36.6 miles from W of Aroma Park, IL to near DeMotte, IN. This is the tornado that caused 2 fatalities near Lake Village."
