I have many tools on my altar, but my most used are by far the most mundane: extra long tweezers and my small scissors. No matter what I do, they always seem to make an appearance.
Honorable mention goes to my handheld lighter. Sorry I drowned you in wax that one time. You’re a trooper.

Thanks! Though I would say that some pictures might be elevated by having kids toys in front - it's a great way to remind us of why we do our works. The pictures that aren't "picture perfect" are the ones I always go back to because they have the little reminders I treasure.
I highly recommend taking pictures of your workings and practices - I wrote a piece on why!

Posting the pictures isn't necessary to reap the benefits, either. Just remember to look over them once in a while.

I recently read that the last few popularity spikes of meditation and mindfulness exercises brought a ton of people into the wider divination/spirituality space.
What first brought you into the space?

Dream interpretation is a touchy topic in many circles. Some say guidebooks are bunk, while others swear by them - I speculate on one possible reason why. moonwisemagic.wordpress.com/2025/01/10/d...

It would be easy to get wrong information or not ground yourself properly within a dream - this isn't a recommendation, it's just morbid curiosity. I'm honestly not sure what would happen.
This question may be outrageous, but has anyone ever tried a divination technique while lucid dreaming? I’m honestly curious what it would be like. #witchsky #divination
I made a friend's stone a divination focus and realized that the items I use to imbue and "teach" blank stones aren't necessarily ones I turn to for my own divination work.
Retired pieces just seem to carry a potency I can't get anywhere else.

Tarot decks can be made up of just about anything. I wrote up a post detailing my personal favorite sources:

My unconventional tarot pull for this post is: Farfetch'd!
Small but mighty. What a great description of the piece!
Now is the time for refreshing and looking forward. For some people, it means cleaning altar spaces. For others, it means brisk walks in the cold.
Sometimes, it means kind words where there were none. So, let me put some here:
How interesting!
I trust you.
That was brave.
You're so smart!
I have a habit of changing standard #tarot spreads to answer questions I get/have the most. Here's a few large and small count card spreads that I've ended up using:

There's a common funk practitioners tend to get into right after they've first learned the craft or improved their skills meaningfully.
This week's piece covers how to shake it off and form meaningful spiritual habits.

A lit candle with a wick burned into the shape of a flower.
I love it when divination results show up in an unexpected way!
The person I was scrying for was planning on planting flowers to honor their chosen deities. They were quite surprised when I showed them this picture!

and the Buddhist prediction that Ichadon's execution would carry with it a miracle. The term "set-in-stone" event is broad on purpose just because it encompasses so much AND is specific to it being an event that describes a public happening and not something specific to a querant's life.
The set-in-stone events I reference in the post are mostly based on belief systems and not a specific divination. I personally do not believe in any set-in-stone events, but a lot of people do! A few examples: The Rapture (even though it doesn't have an assigned date), 1/2
As promised, #witchsky, a piece on the ethics of predicting the future:
moonwisemagic.wordpress.com/2024/12/06/p...
I cover many different topics, including free will nullifying predictions, the concept that some events are "set-in-stone", and the ethical ramifications of prophecies.
Take a look!
I experience similar - usually they’re asking because of something specific they’re afraid of. Identifying the root cause of their fear and consulting how they can overcome it is often the best option overall.
That is very similar to what I do! And even then, I definitely err on the side of vague.
Or I supplement with the physical. I did end up listing off slip hazard locations for one “future warnings for the winter season” request. I used to be an auditor and still wanted to be helpful.
A question for #witchsky:
What are your ethics around someone asking you to predict the far future?
People can put a lot of trust and hope into predictions that can be changed and swayed by all manner of things (free will, counter-forces).
I think I may write about this for this week’s post!
The holiday season is approaching, and that means something very exciting: candle sales!
Take a look at today's post covering candle uses, configurations, and tips to get in the wax-based spirit:

I just wish I was less fire accident-prone. #witchsky
The evenings are getting colder and quieter. The sky is clear and the new moon is about a week away.
It's the perfect time to use that crisp night air for intention setting and divination preparation.
Leaving stones somewhere they can feel the cold seems to make them...clearer, somewhat. #witchsky
I've been in the Midwest my whole life. It's hard to find other witchy individuals...
This is a great idea! I would love to be added if you are still adding people.
I am also a Cancer sun! Ha.
Traditionally (and by that I mean with the RWS, your deck may be different), Cups is the suit of emotions or connections to others while Wands symbolize actions and things you are actively doing. Essentially, how we feel versus what we do. It can be an important distinction in readings.
I have the worst luck with flames. I vibe much harder with water and I think the fire KNOWS. I've sworn off buying bowls and containers to do fire work in that I can't lid and fling out the window in case of emergency.
You're definitely not alone. Fire is scary.
Have you considered having location-specific decks? One that travels with you and one that stays at home? One that's specifically for altar readings (if you have one)? As another commenter said below, you can also have topic-specific decks (especially if they have very different personalities).
Of course! Hope the road to the new moon treats you well.
If you've ever been unsure of which reflective divination method is best for you, I made a handy flowchart!

Crystal balls in particular come in many different flavors and it's important to understand what choices we have.

The 2000s plastic light container! A classic - I saw quite a few, usually next to the bubble lamp. Ha!
