Ah I have strimmed my lawn today, though I left some patches of dandelions as they looked so bright in the sun. Though in fairness the main things we're doing in the garden now is compost and basic maintenance.

I consider myself foremost a fantasy fan and have read very little Tolkien, and never really got hassle because of that. You pick up a lot from seeing others discuss. You know enough of the shape of things to understand reference, and we're past the genre relying on him so much I think.

Leibniz: But let us set our differences on the matter of calculus aside for a minute. Perhaps you would care for a biscuit? I have some delicious chocolate-backed confections, far superior to those fig-based monstrosities that have become so popular recently.

Newton: now hang on just a minute…

Kid is watching a science & engineering show which keeps using Enchante, the same music used by @battleroyale.bsky.social. So I keep expecting to hear Ben and Liza talking about French stuff, but it's American guys doing stuff with robots and acid

Hiya Womble, I'm most of the way through Unfamiliared by @hannafordjenny.bsky.social, which is good fun.

Tried to explain the original Sonic design to Kid, in the end I just showed it to him, he was mildly horrified.

Well done Australia!

A) you repeatedly refer to them as robots, so you do know that colloquially that is what they are
2) it said very clearly no Gundam series
So, no

QTP with a robot that's not Star Wars or Transformers

Hard mode: no Gundam series, Battletech or Macros allowed.

This is my second QTP of the day about this book and I don't care.

3-way tie:
Sometimes, a person reaches a point in their life when it becomes absolutely essential to get the fuck out of the city.

Find the strength to do both.

You're an animal. And animals have no purpose. You are allowed to just live.

Hmm, maybe this book is my bible? There are worse choices.

And the woman did speak unto the hound, saying, What do you mean, normal men, and the hound answered the woman, saying, We are just innocent men. And great was her emotion

Wow! Though reaction to this means I have told Kid who Rosalind Franklin is, though without much detail. Then I had to explain sexism because apparently I'd not defined that for him properly before, so there's another area I need to start having more convos about.

Ah, that explains why my former Tory councillor is now the Reform candidate. Didn't realise it was a wider trend.

I feel like I saw this Doctor Who episode, and it turned out to be talking about racism too

Yes! I was in the audience at a convention panel about conflict w/o violence, and mentioned Civil Campaign in a question. I was delighted when one author was excited I'd mentioned it, so I do have his book on my TBR.

Screenshot from the notinourname.org.uk Women in support of the trans+ community website. The words on screen show that 99,000 have signed. Let’s get to 100,000, under a quote that reads:

“We want the media and politicians to recognise that there is a large number of women who are supportive of the trans+ community. We call on them to report truthfully about the sources of violence against women and to address the systems that perpetuate harm.”

We crossed 99k signatures yesterday. As we approach the anniversary of the SC ruling tomorrow, we will share some thoughts on updates from our work over the last 12 months.

It looks like our initial target of 100k signatures is firmly in reach, but we won’t stop there.

Thank you everyone 🙏

Came here to say this, loving the that the bugs made the cover, wondering at the improbable pecs of Gregor's guards.

The other day Kid and I saw a squirrel with cotton wool or something in its mouth, so it looked like Santa. It ran along the fence, over next door's flat roof and out of sight. Later a squirrel was hanging out in our tree, so I guess it stashed it.

It has been a very horrible day, so I am quite fragile.
Watching Mama Mia, and of course the patron god of this film is Aphrodite who is invoked. There's certain numbers, esp Dancing Queen & Voulez Vous, that feel they could easily tip Dionysian, which would be a very different film of course.

There's a musical called Here You Come Again, based on the music of Dolly Parton and specifically set in 2020 in North of England.

I wonder if this is why my not-good photo of a pigeon yesterday has gotten so much more attention than I expected. It's very clearly not good or cute enough to be AI. Or it could be the rainbow

So, who else can JD Vance go and stump for? I mean if he don't kill em he kills their political career.

Grey sky with a rainbow across it. There are various trees, frontmost is a tall, green conifer, sitting at the very top of the conifer, right in the rainbow, is a pigeon.

There was rain, sun and some hail on the walk home, but also a rainbow. Now I am home and, in what is surely a good omen, I can see this magical rainbow pigeon from my room. The rainbow is even brighter IRL.

That's the version I'm reading, but I figured I'd leave the intros until after is read the book. I mean the Avatar film is also a lot like Ferngully, among other things, so it's clearly a kind of story shape.
