It's official. I have "graduated" with my seniors this year. I AM RETIRED!

I should have taken more pictures... but I was busy experiencing the many "last moments" with students and colleagues, packing my room, etc.🥹

Students have suggested my 'retirement job' should be to open a coffee shop and call it The Chestnut Tree Cafe. I could hang propaganda-style posters for the drinks and pastries: "Victory Coffee...Ministry of Love Latte...O'Bran muffins... Big Brother Bagel...🤣

Mob Mentality and Genocide Mob Mentality and Genocide How Does It Happen? https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vTNRckvU7Ts1gjP7qz6kadiNVgCY0ZOU8MvovFeBeY18RxIMHin2ufislfEaghOUIaaZslIHoyWFZbR/pub?start=false&loop=fals...

Just a little lesson I threw together as my 10th graders begin NIGHT. Why? TWO students thought the Holocaust was "fake". How many others do too but said nothing?

I want them to recognize it BEFORE we "get there".

Using Egg Substitutes in Baking and Cooking - Cooperative Extension: Food & Health - University of Maine Cooperative Extension There are many plant-based (and shelf-stable) alternatives to eggs, some better than others when it comes to the flavor, texture, and look of baked goods. Our tips for using egg substitutes in baking ...

Egg shortage? There are alternatives our vegan friends have been using successfully that still produce excellent (eggcellent?😆) results. extension.umaine.edu/food-health/...

Today I submitted by "early tell" non-revokable retirement form. (mixed feelings)

And the darned school Internet went down and wouldn't let me send it!😆

Went to the snow Monday afternoon w/the child of a friend because she's 16 and has never "seen snow in person". We had a GREAT time! She went sledding, threw snowballs, and built snow people.

But the air quality from the recent fires left us both with raw throats and feeling ill the next day.

I'm TRYING to stay away from political arguments on this app but THIS I have to call out. I'll return to personal and educational content when history stops repeating itself.

Mike and the Mechanics said it well in "Silent Running" back in '80s:

Swear allegiance to the flag
Whatever flag they offer
Never hint at what you really feel

Teach the children quietly
For some day sons and daughters
Will rise up and fight while we stood still

CSF leak (Cerebrospinal fluid leak) - Symptoms and causes

Retiring due to poor eyesight and other health concerns. Today a former student reached and suggested I get checked for cerebral fluid leak.🤯 Symptoms match!

Does this mean a solution and my career is NOT over?

Making an appointment ASAP to find out!

Victor Frankenstein says he sees himself as the "father" of a new race of men. Whether father or God, in a sense, the Creature IS Frankenstein's child. Since Frankenstein is Victor's surname, it could be argued the Creature IS "a Frankenstein" and so could be called by that name. 😉

Back to school. I know what the lesson plan is and I'm ready. STILL feeling anxious. My eyes and head ACHE just from the lesson planning.

Dear "Conservative" Women,

Your husband's "side chicks" will be forced to carry his child/ren to term and then HE will have to pay CS for each. YOUR children will get less. And no-fault divorce means you can't leave him.

Why I'm retiring:
I'm not "disabled enough" to be credited as such but cannot SEE well enough to keep up on reading/grading/computer entry (3 places) w/out HORRIBLE headaches, severely blurry vision, etc. No one cares.

I'm a very good TEACHER but can't do the back-end of the job. Very sad.

I LOVE my school and being a teacher. I'm a good teacher! My EYES cannot continue to endure 15 hrs overtime grading online, going from screen A to screen B and inputting into 2+ docs/programs. Add in the politics attacking teachers and edu, and I'm OUT. Otherwise, I'd happily teach another 10 yrs.

Each year, I have 180-186 students across 5 classes (2-3 preps). Total prep time per week in 4.5 hrs. Even IF I did nothing but grade during prep, it is impossible to get all the grading done, much less lesson planning, email parents, attend IEP/504 meetings, use the restroom, etc.

More details, please! Articles say it WAS reported/search activated and he was returned to the boat he was originally on. Was it his own boat? Family/guests didn't known how to operate it? Drunk boating accident?

I love the smell and FEEL of the stacks in any library! Even more if there are "white glove" docs in the mix.

Parents, if some boy at school tells you daughter, "Your body, my choice" PRESS CHARGES FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT with both the school/district AND the PD (it's also a threat of sexual assault).

We MUST NOT let this sort of language and mindset become normalized.

Teach boys to be better.

Whitman, Alabama | "Song of Myself" Documentary Series Discover a new video journey as hundreds of people across Alabama bring "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman to life. Join us. Here. In Whitman, Alabama.

"Whitman Alabama", by filmmaker Jennifer Crandall, asks random strangers if they’d like to read some poetry on camera. And then they recite a verse from Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” directly into the camera. It’s almost impossibly beautiful.
