Julianna Schuch, a recent Northwestern graduate, makes a call for cultural sensitivity when evaluating nonverbal behaviors in people on the psychosis spectrum in her first lead author publication. Thank you to @daniellepratt.bsky.social for your supervision!!

Figure 3 shows meta-regressions of significant study variables. Graphs depict: A) IQ difference between groups, B) Age difference between groups, C) Percentage of females, D) Inpatient status, and E) Presence of schizoaffective disorder.
Meta-analysis indicates that individuals with #Schizophrenia show pronounced deficits in symbol coding tasks, with processing speed impairment exceeding most other cognitive domains. ja.ma/49qUikE

Meta-Analytic Effect Size By Cognitive Tests and Domains. Circle points are individual tests, and diamond points with bolded labels are domains. The horizontal line at 0 represents the control group’s relative performance. The dotted horizontal line is the global cognitive impairment. The thickness of the 95% confidence intervals is a function of the number of studies in the individual test’s meta-analysis. The thickness of the points is a function of the total sample size for the individual test’s meta-analysis.
This paper updates Dickinson et al.'s formative paper identifying digit symbol coding as uniquely impaired in this population. Despite evolving research methods and clinical interventions, we largely replicate their findings with some key caveats and novel findings.

Happy holidays, everyone! I am SO excited to finally share our updated meta-analysis comparing impairment in processing speed to other cognitive abilities in people with schizophrenia.

Oh my gosh, YES. I love this.
I am SO proud of Sophie Parmacek for publishing her 1st first-authored pub! Sophie found the first evidence that people at CHR for psychosis have impairments in recognizing emotions (particularly fear) through body movement.
FYI, Sophie will be applying for clinical psychology programs this cycle 👀
Congrats @ivanka13.bsky.social , @daniellepratt.bsky.social , @GregoryStrauss on a new paper in Schizophrenia Bulletin!
Temporal Relationship Between Momentary Negative Affect Intensity and Momentary Attenuated Delusions in Individuals at Clinical High-risk for Psychosis

Ever wonder how cognition relates to social outcomes in people at clinical high-risk for psychosis? 🤔
I am SO proud of Nashya Linares for publishing her FIRST first-author paper. This paper definitely shows her persistence, as quite a bit of data wrangling was needed for this one.
Yes. Also, NIH itself has stopped recruitment of PhD students, postbacs, and postdocs at all its campuses.
The nat'l recruitment cycle is closing, everyone will be done soon. It's already a lost year of talent coming in to do great science at NIH. Damage to 🧪 is real. (Story linked below, see 🧵.)
1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.
I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

As someone with aphantasia (on top of my interest in imagery), thank you for sharing, Nadine!
In an effort led by the wonderful Lauren Luther, we find that a 3-factor model of the Defeatest Performance Belief Scale (Overvaluing Success, Overvaluing Failure, and Overvaluing Social Evaluation) is the best psychometric fit for schizophrenia and CHR samples! Very cool stuff, come check it out!
Thank you!!
Hi! I would love to be added! I study cognition across the psychosis spectrum and its effect in symptoms and functioning. Thank you!
Would love to be added to this one. I do research on cognition and psychosis and I love data viz. Thank you!
I’m accepting graduate students and hiring an RA and a Post-doc to join the Development, Affective, Motor, and Memory Imaging lab.

Hi! I study cognition across the psychosis spectrum. Could I be added? Thank you!
Would love to be added! Thank you.
