We'll be exploring the alignment of (and frictions around) public policy, digitalisation and organisational structures in using transparency as a tool for greater sustainability in the food system.

A rare thing: *four* three-year hums/soc-sci posts in animal studies, on the Multispecies Mutualisms project at UoSheffield - with @rosaleenduffy.bsky.social, me, Robert McKay and Alasdair Cochrane; see here for a video explainer: digitalmedia.sheffield.ac.uk/media/Multis...
The "simplified reporting" (EU Omnibus Package) debate highlights a key risk: "transparency" in EU food policy is vague and ill-defined.
We argue that genuine transparency isn't just about data volume—it's about purpose. We must build trust via context-specific definitions.
Our new TITAN policy brief on food system transparency is out:

So sad to hear this news. John was such a kind and generous person, and a great lecturer. Incredibly supportive from my first tutorial as an undergrad and beyond.

We explore 117 resources aimed at ages 5–11, and reflect on the implications of these and how future resources might be designed to prompt not only critical reflection but more meaningful actions and engagement amongst learners regarding care of animals for food.
It's the first review of the place of animals in learning resources for food education and contributes to research relating to the nature and role of learning resources for education for sustainable development.
New open access paper out with Verity Jones on 'Learning to Care for the Food System: Education for Sustainable Development resources, food education and the farming of animals for food'

It is a relief that University management has backed away from the brutal plans to cut up to 700 jobs. This backtracking is in no doubt down to the relentless pressure from UCU, from all the campus unions and the support from the city of Dundee, local communities and across the political spectrum.
Day two of the strike, and we've ben getting a lot of questions from students about the action. What's it for, why are we doing it now, and how can they help.
So let's run through some Strike Questions! 🧵

I have begun to compile a starter pack of human geographers, so if you are new to BlueSky it’s worth checking out. Also please let me know who I should add, I’m sure I’m missing lots of people
