Some did, some tried. The Institute for Peace fought hard and smart. They were valiant in their efforts.

The deep goal of bluesky is to decentralize the social internet so that every individual controls their experience of it rather than having it be controlled by 5 random billionaires. Everyone thinks they signed up for a demuskified twitter...we actually signed an exciting and bizarre experiment.
I read some of those in high school. Jailbird, and Deadeye Dick... i think I read Galapagos later. He was formative for me. My high school english teacher pointed me to him. Humanity at its finest. So it goes. #vonnegut
“And Lot's wife, of course, was told not to look back where all those people and their homes had been. But she did look back, and I love her for that, because it was so human. So she was turned into a pillar of salt. So it goes.”

“And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.”

“A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, The Sirens of Titan
“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.”

No joke. I think when the fandom for Stormtroopers and Darth Vader became "cute" and "fun" -- perhaps a tipping point of sorts, or a canary in the coal mine for rooting for the literal bad guys because "they're cool and strong."
My love/hate relationship with @teamcherry.bsky.social 's Silksong release... words escape me. I think I stopped hoping, and I'm no longer excited, and that... makes me sad. Oh well. Just a game, I suppose. Maybe some day. But I can't keep loving something that will never love me back ;)
I do enjoy a cold sarsparilla, drunk from a fuscia glass, while snacking on a pamplemouse, in the company of otters, espcially those who's commentary is both witty and barbed. (PS. Enjoying watching X's user count plummet).
THis. Libraries, of any kind, in any place, of any shape, will never stop being magical to me. They will never not excite me. I get the same vibe from nice bookstores... but the thrill of public service, community, at its finiest, physical form -- the humble library. Pure magic.
Public library energy is the best energy. Like here is all the knowledge we could find, it's been meticulously organized and vetted and it will cost you nothing today, welcome to the absolute pinnacle of human civic evolution, feel free to pull up any bean bag chair you like
Let’s run the government like a business, drive the car like a bicycle, and play the guitar like a piano
lmao. especially on brand for this year, too.
I heard about this on the radio, and it enraged me. They couldn't have published this story, i dunno... in Mid October???
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

HR 9495 is a major threat to Free Speech. It gives Donald Trump’s administration the power to suppress and punish those he views as political enemies.
