We are looking at a painting of St Liphardus - a 6th-century lawyer, hermit and abbot in Meung-sur-Loire near Orléans, France. He is wearing bishops clothing including a surplus and mitre and is holding a crook. On a lead is a small knee high green and blue dragon.

We’re very sorry sir but you cannot bring your emotional support dragon in here.

a penguin is standing in the snow looking at the camera Alt: a penguin waddling along and falling over

I've just tripped over a step while putting out the rubbish and I have a ginormous bruise on my leg now, which is nice, because it's just getting to skirts/shorts weather.

Write to Stonewall.

• Tell them you supported them in the past.

• Tell them why you won’t be supporting transphobia.

Cut direct debts.

Don’t by the merch.

Tell your direct contacts.

Oh, I know they're out there, but I don't think the whole field is 'bougie prof types with a grudge against trans students' like this post implies.

I am not an EU law specialist, unlike some friends, but I love a good EU human rights law smackdown as much as anyone.

I have never ever found this, so thank you, academic friends, for being my Bubble; long may our surface tension hold us together.

Actually I'm not sure if it would be a better curse to say 'I hope all the emails find you. Always.'

'I hope this email doesn't find you.'

Today I'm going to write some words and then I'm going to teach some students some things. And it will not help with the need to holler into the void but it might help a student write a good essay about something thoughtful.

When you're really annoyed it's just this.

Best,

Everything in the world makes me want to S-C-R-E-A-M at the minute but instead I am just plodding on with my little job and my little volunteer work and my little book.

There are currently 6 permanent full time history jobs in the whole UK. 500+ PhDs being produced a year - not all of whom will want to pursue an academic year but likely most, and of course years will stack up onto each other. What a sector.

T is OK for cis women but not trans men.

Puberty blockers are OK for cis kids but illegal for trans kids.

You see it, right? You see what this is?

Europe’s highest court has ruled Hungary’s anti LGBTI law violates EU law and values.

Péter Magyar’s pro EU stance now faces a clear test: commit to withdrawing the law and reversing the Pride ban.

No action means no credibility.

we've always advocated for change and access beyond our own needs - for bodily autonomy, names changes, hormones, identity construction, non-traditional family, transgression of gender norms - for everyone who might benefit from them

Don't be shy to take on a little two-week side project. These five months will be the most precious three years of your academic journey.

Average Prime Minister steps on 3 rakes a day factoid is actually just statistical error. Average Prime Minister steps on 0 rakes per day. Rakes Keir, who lives in garden centre and steps on over 10,000 rakes each day, is an outlier and should not have been counted

There is something wrong with the asylum process for LGBTQ+ people – but it’s not fake claimants A new investigation is likely to cast suspicion over LGBTQ+ claims more broadly.

Great to write with @raawiyah.bsky.social and Calogero Giametta on the realities of LGBTIQA+ asylum following the BBC's deeply misleading and harmful reporting last week.

I am the exact opposite of this. I'm an under-writer - I write super concisely - so my new draft is my old draft +20%, where I've spotted the moments I should let go and let myself explain, or play.

A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!

Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....

I think I'll cheer myself up with a little light teaching revision.

What are we doing this week?

Oh.

Assisted dying and end-of-life cases.
