I thought?\:
a deal was imminent
Replacing the JCPOA would be easy
the war would be over in a couple of weeks
Iran was ready to fall
Iran desperately wanted a deal
It is almost as if the President keeps saying things that are untrue, and yet they keep being reported as factual.

There has long been a thought that AI lab directors/inventors have thrown out the idea of global destruction from AI to distract from all of the lesses harms that are all but certain to come to pass.
Imagine how GOP would be howling if a democratic president ever sent a VP to Pakistan in the hopes of an Iranian delegation would show up. Hopefully more going on behind the scenes but on the surface seems like the definition of showing over-eagerness for a deal.
Not just your brother.
This is a core issue. Negotiating “partners” expect Trump to settle for less than 1/2 a loaf. His long record backs it up. And if and when that does not happen, then the risk of escalation increases. Either way hard to see how US under Trump succeeds in its objectives.
In his first term, Trump ripped up the Obama administration's nuclear deal with Iran.
Now he's trying to bomb & threaten his way to a better outcome & it's failing horribly.

This is an amazing piece of political and strategic analysis, and a wonderfully entertaining piece of writing. Rarely do you get both at the same time.

A terrific discussion about a mess of Trump’s own making. Amazingly, there is a diplomatic solution if this Admin is smart enough to take it.

If and when get gets a deal, we will see. He hasn’t produced anything in North Korea or Russia yet either.
excellent piece with great insights from my friends and colleagues @matthew-bunn.bsky.social @scottroecker.bsky.social and Andrew Weber.

Bottom line - US could remove HEU from Iran easily if Iran agrees and maybe without. But no military solution to Iran nuclear issue.

Bluesky having issues all around?
So a JCPOA. Just not as good.

Why do I suspect prices won’t come down as these companies collect refunds?
Legal if we are at war. If not at war, is this not an act of piracy?
We cannot trust a single word Trump says. He lies with every breath. Trump says negotiations with Iran will resume Monday. Iran just said, no they won’t. We are nowhere close to a deal or the opening of the Strait. www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...
Written obviously by someone with no kids or easy kids.
Excited to be on 60 Minutes tonight discussing Iran’s HEU and other nuclear capabilities!
12. The atomic age is ending. One age of deterrence, the atomic age, is ending, and a new era of deterrence built on A.l. is set to begin. 13. No other country in the history of the world has advanced progressive values more than this one. The United States is far from perfect. But it is easy to forget how much more opportunity exists in this country for those who are not hereditary elites than in any other nation on the planet. 14. American power has made possible an extraordinarily long peace. Too many have forgotten or perhaps take for granted that nearly a century of some version of peace has prevailed in the world without a great power military conflict. At least three generations — billions of people and their children and now grandchildren — have never known a world war.
15. The postwar neutering of Germany and Japan must be undone. The defanging of Germany was an overcorrection for which Europe is now paying a heavy price. A similar and highly theatrical commitment to Japanese pacifism will, if maintained, also threaten to shift the balance of power in Asia. 16. We should applaud those who attempt to build where the market has failed to act. The culture almost snickers at Musk's interest in grand narrative, as if billionaires ought to simply stay in their lane of enriching themselves .... Any curiosity or genuine interest in the value of what he has created is essentially dismissed, or perhaps lurks from beneath a thinly veiled scorn.
17. Silicon Valley must play a role in addressing violent crime. Many politicians across the United States have essentially shrugged when it comes to violent crime, abandoning any serious efforts to address the problem or take on any risk with their constituencies or donors in coming up with solutions and experiments in what should be a desperate bid to save lives. 18. The ruthless exposure of the private lives of public figures drives far too much talent away from government service. The public arena —and the shallow and petty assaults against those who dare to do something other than enrich themselves—has become so unforgiving that the republic is left with a significant roster of ineffectual, empty vessels whose ambition one would forgive if there were any genuine belief structure lurking within.
Points 12-18 of the Palantir plan include:
12. The atomic age is ending.
and
17. Silicon Valley must play a role in addressing violent crime.
No more mister nice guy?
Trump said he would improve:
Health care
Infrastructure
Economy
Gas prices
Food prices
Elections
Iran nuclear deal
US-Russia New START Treaty
Debt
Crime
He has done none of it. He has become massively wealthy and enriched his donors. All while undermining rule of law and US security.
Nothing is clear except this war will not achieve US goals.
