Has NASA considered just setting up a Zoom or what
Hell yeah, space
tfw you send an email at 9:30 p.m. thinking you won't have to worry about a response until morning and they immediately reply
Are you gonna try to be in LA in 2028, every single match is in the same venue
I genuinely do not understand management's refusal to agree to basic protections, like that they won't replace us with AI. It's baffling. Makes no sense. We're on strike to show management how serious we are about this, and how eager we are to get a contract done!
The Grey Lady must be missing her heart. A respected employee asks to work remote while caring for his 96-year old father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease? Rejected.
The crumbs of a very subpar ham and cheese croissant on an IKEA wood cutting board for some reason. While you're here — ProPublica's management should actually engage in good faith with the its unit. They're better than this.
Taking a lunch break with my @marshallprojectguild.org
co-workers in support of @propublicaguild.org strike! (This was a bad ham and cheese croissant but I already ate it, oops)
We're on strike! Don't visit propublica.org on April 8
We’re on strike today! Support our fight for a fair contract by NOT visiting the @propublica.org website or engaging with ProPublica stories today.
Tell ProPublica’s management you won’t cross the picket line: actionnetwork.org/petitions/te...
big day for staring into the middle distance and breathing audibly
dear god I saw a stray comment about this earlier today and assumed it was a joke
3/ Join our fight by writing to ProPublica’s management to tell them that you’ll honor our digital picket line.

Dear Robin Sparkman and ProPublica board of directors: Our world needs more investigative journalism in the public interest. Continuing ProPublica’s mission will require a strong, fair collective bargaining agreement that uplifts journalistic integrity. And that means ProPublica needs to have contractual language prohibiting any potential for artificial intelligence to replace journalists and other workers who make ProPublica the important publication it is today. As the rare union leader with a background in journalism and computer programming, I fully support the need to leverage technology to improve our ability to tell stories. And there are many recent examples of how AI can be helpful in reporting, when used ethically. For example, ProPublica journalists published the “Deleting DEI” story, which chronicled how nonprofit organizations have removed language connected to diversity, equity and inclusion. Reporters used AI to help find DEI related scrubs from nonprofit statements. In “Gutted: How Deeply Trump Has Cut Federal Health Agencies,” reporters used AI to help categorize job types into groups. And then reporters manually checked them all. ProPublica journalists, represented by the Guild, have shown how AI can be used ethically, and they deserve newsroom leadership who agrees with its ethical use. Unfortunately, your leadership team is refusing common sense provisions at the bargaining table that would protect both jobs as well as the integrity of the journalism they produce. And now, 92% of ProPublica’s workers have voted to walk off the job in part due to the company’s stance on AI, in addition to its position on job security, layoff protections and wages. ProPublica management should follow the example set by nonprofit news organizations such as Grist, the Associated Press and others. For example, CalMatters has agreed to: • protect jobs from being eliminated because of AI • protect the salaries of employees from being reduced because of AI
• listen to workers’ input when evaluating the use of AI and get the consent of employees before handing off material to a third-party company for training AI systems • a strong editorial integrity clause, ensuring that AI is clearly labeled and is not published unless several requirements are met • obtain the consent of employees before impersonating someone using AI CalMatters agreed to these protections more than a year ago. Why would ProPublica management refuse similar protections? Time is quickly running out for your leadership team to make a decision that will determine whether the public can trust ProPublica on this important issue. I sincerely hope you decide to stand with the journalists and other workers who make ProPublica the investigative powerhouse that it has become. I thought people were overselling it but the "For You" feed is actually really good, like night and day compared to "Discover" bsky.app/profile/did:...
Some of the copied material came from outlets owned by Nota’s own clients. Nexstar, for example, had a $600,000 deal with Nota, according to Nota’s website. (Information about the deal was removed this week.) Poynter found three stories that included reporting from two Nexstar stations.
Not only stealing, but getting *paid* (well, maybe not anymore) by the very clients they were stealing from
While we're on the subject of journalists and AI, let's not overlook how an AI media company with the mission of addressing news deserts has been blatantly stealing content from local reporters and newsrooms since last October www.poynter.org/ethics-trust...
I got my “you were not selected” message early yesterday, but my partner and a friend got time slot emails around noon today for Friday, so there’s still a chance. Good luck!
It’s fun—a macabre sort of fun—this parlor game of “Who Goes AI?” And it simplifies things—asking the question in regard to specific journalists.

Thank you for registering for the LA28 Ticket Draw. Demand has been extraordinarily high, and you were not selected for a purchase time slot in this ticket drop. The good news is that there will be more opportunities to get LA28 tickets. Additional tickets will be released in subsequent ticket drops, with the next occurring later this year. You will automatically be entered into all future ticket draws for those drops, until you reach the ticket maximum of 12. If you have questions, our FAQ page is the best place to get clear, up-to-date guidance, and if you haven’t already, sign up for the LA28 newsletter to be notified about future ticket draws. Thank you for your interest in the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We'll be in touch soon! —The LA28 Ticketing Team
Ended up getting the "better luck next time" email, at least I'm auto-entered in future draws, womp
at least once a week, easily
The post honestly does work in both contexts
Purging Axios from everything I’ve had the ability to over the past 5-7 years really paying dividends today
Got so annoyed with an attempt to deploy FreshRSS to sync with NetNewsWire that I instead challenged myself to write a UI-less server that speaks the same API, and it... mostly works?
NNW being open source really helped with understanding the API expectations
This is fun
I'm normally using Libby + a Kobo Reader, but it still feels a little magical to just walk into a library and walk out with a stack of books
We are asking all our @propublicaguild.org supporters to send a letter to @propublica.org President Robin Sparkman. Let her know: It's time for a fair contract NOW actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
It's far from perfect but I enjoy listening to the spam call voicemails left by scammers who cannot hide how annoyed they are that they got picked up by iPhone Call Screening
I spent a (painfully) long time as a person waging war with the monolith from the outside with tiny bits of custom software and I'm still stunned how much better things are when the monolith *is* the custom software and is supported by an org of people that enjoy using it
