Two bearded musicians holding guitars on a stage in soft blue lighting. On the left, Joey Landreth is wearing a flat cap, a denim shirt, and is playing a gold top Les Paul style guitar. On the right, Dave Landreth is playing a red semi-hollow bass, also wearing denim. A drum kit, stage monitors, and microphone stands are also visible

I went to the Brothers Landreth in Nottingham last night. They are sublime. The songs, harmonies, musicianship, innovation, tones, and generosity that they bring are second to none. They’re my favourite and and keep getting better

I'm pretty sure I saw the actor Richard Kind near the British Library yesterday. He looked entirely unassuming. News of this got a "WOW" text reply from my 13 year old son, which is high praise indeed

This is wonderful news. The UK has officially signed up to rejoin the EU’s Erasmus+ scheme from 2027

It means students, apprentices and young people will be able to study and work across Europe 👏

Ha, well I'm pausing my work to gather my thoughts...flicking through the printed pages of my thesis and scribbling intermittently

Their Raising Sand album is one of my favourites - it's just so beautiful. And the band that backs them! Sublime

This level of intricate editing spikes my anxiety and makes me want to sack the whole book off, but...I have a gig on of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant performing live together and if their music isn't just perfect - www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxgG...

I thought there was a simple split where one could become two. Coming back to it and reading it all again, I can see that I need to untangle before I can split. That is today's job.

Then I need to add a conference paper to the second part. Splitting would have been easier!

I was fortunate to get a monograph contract for my PhD. I was even more fortunate that my external examiner is now my editor, so he knew the work well. His publication recommendation was that my unwieldy 2nd chapter ought to become two, and he was right.

The problem is...

No, I’d quibble that though I understand the meaning. I’m not sure what an indoor BBQ is however

I don’t think you need to specify that a BBQ is for outdoor use

What's your spoken word count for a 20 minute conference paper? I'm reading from a script, with no powerpoint

The scariest thing about Trump is that there are still things he’s done that he doesn’t want us to know. That’s how bad the Epstein files are, when you consider what he’s done in public for so long

My Spotify algorithms have been playing bluegrass to me all day and it's been wonderful. I need to dust off my banjo

I went to the awful game against Iceland before the last Euros but some of Trent’s passing was outrageous. You don’t start for Real for nothing

A new one for me - having a paper declined at a conference that I haven’t been applied to present at. Can’t be too careful, best email me to dissuade me on the off chance I show up

I’m presenting on evangelical hymns and slavery in a few weeks at the Reformation Society Symposium. I’ve presented on this before, but I’m happy that I’ll have a totally new paper on the same material - bodes well for generating a full journal article out of it all at some point

As a lifelong Newcastle United fan, after today’s defeat at home to Sunderland I’ve given up all interest in football altogether. The beautiful game is dead to me and so I’m now a Tottenham fan
