Trump Picks Golf Dinner Over Dignified Transfer of U.S. Troops’ Bodies Trump flew to the Saudi-funded event in Florida on Friday.

"Rather than attend the dignified transfer of the bodies of four U.S. Army soldiers who died on a training mission in Lithuania, Trump flew to Florida to watch a Saudi-funded LIV golf tournament at his own course."

The Quiet Way the NIH Is Stalling Some Research Before It Starts A number of grant proposals have disappeared from scientists’ review pipelines, with little explanation. Applicants are bewildered and frustrated.

The NIH has made headlines for terminating grants and delaying peer review. But there’s another, less visible way the agency is disrupting science: It’s quietly removing some grant applications from review for the indefinite future. chroni.cl/4leEu8z

I learned this week that you can put our troops' lives in danger, compromise our national security, and violate the Espionage Act. And the government will do nothing.

But if you write an editorial for your school newspaper that Trump doesn't like, you will be abducted on the street and disappeared.

If Medicaid is cut, schools could lose $7.5 billion in funding for:
• Speech therapy
• Mental health services
• Medical assistance
• Support for students with disabilities
80% of schools would be forced to cut health professionals & specialized support staff.
70% would cut mental & behavioral health services.

School-based Medicaid programs are vital in ensuring that millions of children, particularly those with disabilities, receive services such as speech therapy, mental health support, and medical assistance.
These funds are a high target for upcoming cuts.
Our students deserve better.

How ironic would it be if the U.S. government were to build a small prison for illegal immigrants using wood imported from Russia that was harvested and milled by North Korean inmates?

NSF downsizes summer research program for undergraduates Many participants are from groups underrepresented in science

"downsizes" is a weak way of saying "forced to cancel dozens of programs, which jeopardizes future STEM careers of talented undergrads" @science.org www.science.org/content/arti...

Thanks for sharing. Such a travesty that Trump and Musk are foisting upon American citizens. The gutting of USAID will take years to repair.

How a Canadian scientist and a venomous lizard helped pave the way for Ozempic - National | Globalnews.ca In 1984, Dr. Daniel Drucker, an endocrinologist from the University of Toronto, discovered a hormone that helped pave the way for popular diabetes drugs such as Ozempic.

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic.

Update: They were removed from our reviewer assignments completely. I'm so sorry to all those graduate students.

Anonymous to protect the identity of the NIH employee I spoke to...I am on study section next month to discuss F awards. We were just instructed to put the F31-Diversity applications on the bottom of our priority list for review because there is a chance we may not be able to review them. My heart is breaking for the grad students and their mentors that put so much work into these just for them to be disqualified and thrown out.

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

The U.S. #NationalWeatherService, housed within #NOAA, is a truly world-class meteorological predictive service, perhaps singularly so. It costs only ~$3/yr per taxpayer, & yields ~10:1 return on investment--saving economy 10s-100s of billions, not to mention thousands of lives.

Egg prices are soaring again. Here’s why and what to expect Bird flu has killed millions of hens in recent weeks, shrinking the supply of eggs and hiking up prices at grocery stores.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

So, the same Republicans who spent years & tens of millions of our tax dollars demanding to see the contents of a laptop belonging to Joe Biden’s private citizen son, don’t want to see the ethics report on the former Congressman Trump wants to make our nation’s Attorney General?
