Bowie update:
- He is heartworm positive. Started treatment immediately
- Got x-rays on chest and pelvis. No heart damage, mild lung inflammation
- "No radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis" but he is definitely in pain. Not sure why, but thankful it's not hip dysplasia
- We picked up a dirty-ass dog wandering around the neighborhood, figuring it was someone's lost pet. Took him to the vet to look for microchip. - Contacted person on microchip, posted online/contacted animal control/etc. - Person whose contact info was on chip told us that they gave the dog away due to allergies and gave me the number of the "new owner", who never responded. - Somewhat suspicious that there was no "new owner", I asked if they could send over vaccination records and they did so without hesitation. Have not heard from them since. - Info learned: he is vaccinated for rabies and is 4 years old - We half-heartedly talked about finding a foster for him for about 2 days before deciding to keep him
- He seemed generally healthy but had hot spots, a few mats and scaly skin/hair loss/dermatitis in a few areas. Smelled terrible. Really suffered from allergies, was very itchy and sneezy - First vet appointment: got him on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, got medicated shampoo and meds for ear infection. - Got him groomed, his allergy symptoms decreased dramatically! (Probably had a lot of pollen stuck in fur). Took groomer 3 hours - Second vet appointment: concerned because he seems like he's in pain and has low appetite. Tested positive for heartworm and confirmed he has pain in his hips

This isn't an emergency, we can afford this, but the heartworm treatment is a bit of an oof

Because some comments make me think people missed the PSAs I do semi-regularly: if you were born before 1987, you should get a MMR booster now. The second childhood dose of MMR wasn't added until 1989, and folks who were older than 2 (the age for the 2nd) may not have gotten it.
