Yeah, purity politics kills us every time.

The fight against fascism is now. We have who we have. Waiting for someone who pleases every purity leftist guarantees we lose; the only chance we have is for all of us to get on board and fight together.

I don’t think we fully appreciate the depths of economic harm the Republican megabill will unleash on this country, and the ways it will affect things like the housing market.

Here are a few things I’m thinking about:

Pasadena is in the northern part of the city. Which isn’t where the protests are. There was a law enforcement training over Pasadena recently, but that was Rose Bowl related, not trump related.

No one I know is affected, everyone’s just going about their lives.

My parents are so addicted to Facebook and its algorithms that they don’t know about these issues or deny them when confronted. I asked my mother last year what she’d do if her SocSec were cut, she hit the arm of the chair and said “I don’t think he will do that.” She’s also being scammed, so…

But at the same time, after a lifetime of love and with the knowledge that they won’t live forever, how do we not? It’s painful either way.

I have moments where I wonder if I’ll be angry with myself when my parents are gone for not making the most of every minute we have left, but trying to make the most of those moments leaves me angry and/or depressed almost every time now. I feel orphaned with living parents, but with added guilt.

They chose SoCal as their centerpiece over red border states for a reason I’m sure, but that reason appears to be more personal and spiteful than logical.

This is a really good one. Every NIH dollar converts to about $3 in local economics. I don’t think people (non-nerds) appreciate this. The other thing is that there are a lot of scientists who are choosing to stay quiet for fear of being targeted. Things are bad and ppl don’t care IMO

My dad is a retired union man who was always both a solid patriot and at the same time wanted the best for each and every American. He’s also rabidly kool-aid addled these days. It’s ruining what was once a close and loving relationship. You have my deepest sympathy.

I repeat:

If immigrants are sitting around collecting hard earned taxpayer money, why are ICE raiding workplaces?

A White Nationalist Wrote a Law School Paper Promoting Racist Views. It Won Him an Award.

“‘I just find it fascinating that this student can write an article, a series of articles that are essentially manifestoes, and that’s free speech,’ Ms. Chatman said, referring to Mr. Damsky, ‘but my class can’t be called “Race, Entrepreneurship and Inequality.”’” www.nytimes.com/2025/06/21/u...

SAY IT PLAIN: Federal “ICE officers” should not be anonymous.

And this shouldn’t be a controversial thing to say.

With only 8% built, Texas quietly defunds state border wall program Texas officials suggested the federal government could pick up construction. However, during President Trump’s first term, his administration built about one-third of what the state was able to put up...

"Only 8% of the 805 miles the state identified for construction is complete, which has cost taxpayers more than $3 billion to date..."

The same people who say Adriana Smith should stay hooked up to machines so a fetus can gestate inside her dead body for 7 months because “it’s a sacrifice a mother would make” can’t fathom a mother crossing the border with her children in hopes of providing a better life for them.

Canada stepping up.

Again.

They’ve created a number to replace the LGBTQIA+ and mental health crisis hotline.

1-877-330-6366

And made it toll-free free from the US.

Undocumented immigrants can't vote. They don't vote for Democrats because they can't vote. Democrats don't look the other way to let them into the country for votes, because, again: they can't vote. If you are a news org and people tell you otherwise, it's a lie, and you should call it that.

Even the DoJ, with its head appointed by POTUS, is supposed to be independent of the executive branch. Again, trump felt/feels like he can act like a dictator. It’s still wrong.

Trump *was* prosecuted via the correct channels. And he’s now abusing his power and trying to prosecute the prosecutors.

Presidential administrations also don’t prosecute.

Again, that’s the role of the judicial branch.

The judicial, legislative, and executive branches are separate for a reason. Trump abused his role in his first term, that doesn’t make it right.
