I have just learned that Petrarch, having 'discovered' the sole surviving complete mss of Catullus and Cicero Ad Atticum in Verona, then sat on them - and refused all requests for these manuscripts to be either circulated or copied. Then he died. At which point they could have disappeared. Really.

It is with great sadness that the Roman Society has learned of the death of Professor Dame Averil Cameron, DBE, FBA, FSA. Professor of Ancient History (1978-89) and of Late Antique and Byzantine History (1989-1994) at King's College London, and then Warden of Keble College, Oxford (1994-2010).
