Cannot wait until (if?) you come to Royal City Centre. If you need a local who’s there something like three times a week…
Niiiiiiiiice, sorry I couldn’t find one for you sooner!
Nice day for a run 🏃🏻
Ladies and gentlemen... the weekend. (also: you are important and are not alone 🧡)

The 3rd Thursday in April is (apparently) National High Five day! This was a great opportunity to visit sites across #NewWest and thank the people who keep the city running safe, clean and fun with a well-deserved high five!
Do you only use a cleaver?
Mark Carney's decision to suspend the federal gas tax was dumb. The positions taken by Pierre Poilievre and Avi Lewis, on the other hand, were downright ludicrous.
We can do better than this, folks. We have to. #cdnpoli

Yes! For some reason I only have Book 2 on my shelf, I’ll need to fix that.
I’m re-reading The Blighted Stars by Megan E O’Keefe and enjoying it a little more now that I know what happens later on in the series. Just finished Apostles of Mercy, the latest in Lindsay Ellis’s Noumena series, and I enjoyed that one the most of the three written so far.
I restarted Persona 5 Royal and now howdy no matter how much time I put in I know I have another 100 hours to go
After *choosing* to cut $5 Billion from the long-promised-not-delivered Permanent Public Transit Fund, he now *chooses* to subsidize gasoline companies by more than $2 Billion.
He makes choices, Canada’s urban communities have not asked for this, but will bear the load of those choices.
I thought Carney was a builder of infrastructure? With $2.4 billion, we could quickly get to incredible levels of intercity bus service.
Medical appointments, family visits, vacations, etc could all be done without a car.
Instead, the people who can afford a car will save ~$5 per tank.
Taskrabbit.
In the past two years I’ve been to three global cities (London, Paris, Tokyo). You know what they have in common? A lack of dependence on cars. Truly walkable neighbourhoods. Amazing public transit. If McCallum wants to turn Surrey into a city like those, that’s what he needs to promote.
Carney told Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen that the mission around the moon was a point of national pride. He's cutting the Canadian Space Agency by 33%.
Nice day for a run 🏃🏻
A stat that surprised me, but perhaps shouldn't have, when I was reading YIMBY stuff is that homelessness is correlated with housing prices. I guess this is surprising because you tend to assume it can't be as simple as price. And price isn't the only thing, but it turns out to matter.
Canadians + Americans go to Europe and Asia, ride fast electric trains, come back home, and ask: "Why can't we have nice things here?"
It's because, at a crucial point, commentators like Andrew Coyne make the tired argument that sustainable transport is just too darned expensive.

He gets a smaller commission if housing prices drop. So opposing new building means prices go up, and he makes more money.
I am once again reminded that Pulp's album "Different Class" is one of the greatest albums of all time.
iPads are cheaper than summer camp
Don’t you work from home? Why do the kids need to go to camp for the whole summer?
This is what happens when we treat a necessity like a business. People get squeezed during an affordability crisis, workers get mistreated & infrastructure crumbles.
It's time we go back to treating BC Ferries as a public utility. We can lower costs, increase service & build the transit we deserve.
Beautiful old brick “Westminster” building at the corner of Columbia Street and Begbie Street
Old shops along front street with a real cool piece of public artwork underneath the supports of a metal staircase. The artwork is a collection of street lamps, painted green, and sprouting out of the concrete like a plant.

Okay, I finally went checked out New Westminster and… how come no one told me how cool this city is?!?? Are you all just trying to gatekeep this place or is it just legitimately underrated?
Royal Square Mall is too small, it won’t be on the list. Only RCC is big enough.
It's true!

New Westminster Mayor @pjnewwest.bsky.social announces he will seek re-election this October, following months of being on the fence.
Johnstone will face off against councillor Daniel Fontaine, after four years of fairly acrimonious battles between the two at city hall.
