Ken Miyauchi had been wanting to add a guest character to Guilty Gear -Strive- since Season 2 as part of Arc System Works' overall goal of expanding its playerbase. CD Projekt Red was the first developer that they reached out to because -Strive-'s lead artist, Hidehiko Sakamura, is a big fan of the Witcher series. Satoru Honmna, CD Projekt Red's Japan Country Manager, suggested collaborating with Cyberpunk Edgerunners. ArcSys considered Ciri from The Witcher 3, "But then, there was like, quite a different type of conversation between CD Projekt Red, and we finalized our idea to down to bringing in Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners."

They originally wanted Ciri which I think would've been even worse. Side note but I would kill to learn what "but then, there was like, quite a different type of conversation [...]" means
