This was a surreal full-circle for me, to be surrounded by an organisation and a community that had (literally) violently rejected me and the critique I was helping to raise, and be embraced and acknowledged. Pride is different today, in part because of the work we did.

It's been long enough now since it happened that people often don't know, but along with Ti Lamusse and Justine Sachs, I was part of a protest against Pride in 2015 to criticise cops and prison guards leading the parade.

This weekend I was granted life membership in Auckland Pride, only the third person to be recognised like this. I'm honoured, but I was recognised for being one prominent spokesperson for the radical vision of what Pride could be - not because I'm an individual, but because I'm part of a collective.

so like this section is a history of the world economy from 1929-todayish, and it's obviously dry. instead of just struggling through I've just been giving my own Mystery Science Theatre-style running commentary on what I'm talking about. I hope this is a good idea lol

When I'm giving a lecture and I can see that people are getting bored or checking out, I just start telling jokes or swearing so they get pulled back in. I've been really dragging on this part of my book so I've started just doing the same thing and writing down how I actually think about this stuff

we're good! Kendra's PhD is coming along, and my book is just about ready for me to send it to the publisher 😭😭😭 This student and I were talking about managers and professionals in the class structure and they were only really familiar with much weaker analyses than yours - they seemed excited!
