"The growing sense that 'freedom' is a word you say when you are bullshitting has made it harder to talk about freedom in non-bullshit ways." Terrific work from @danbrooks.bsky.social

Hey I wrote a story about how the “benefit” fights of the early American boxing scene show that it’s not just the UFC but rather the fight game itself that has no problem sending you out on a stretcher in your own retirement fight. sports.yahoo.com/mma/article/...
I wrote about the Trump Gaza video and MAGA irony more generally for the Times Mag. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/13/m...
Launching SEE FRIENDSHIP last night at Books Are Magic was a dream—the best a book event has ever been, possibly. Up next, I'll be hitting up San Francisco's Green Apple Books with Jay Caspian Kang on March 12—would love to see you there
I'm starting to worry about a Gillian Anderson-Krysten Sinema convergence.
For the Atlantic, I wrote about people saying "oneshotted" online — the place it's least likely to happen to you. www.theatlantic.com/culture/arch...

Part of being married is silently watching them destroy all the nonstick surfaces in the house. No one tells you.
Nick learned these events were happening from the hooting of an owl. They were revealed to him in a dream.
Great interview
Really good, especially the Homer list, which might also benefit from Last Exit to Springfield (in which he becomes head of the union.)
I got a CD copy of Exile in Guyville for the car and do not regret it at all.

Seeing a lot of calls to violence on here from people who have no experience with or means to do violence. It's been 2016 for a long time.
Firefighter: [after my house burns down] Fucking fire, am I right?
in defending his notion of "ordered love," Vance remarks: "Aside from that, the idea that there isn’t a hierarchy of obligations violates basic common sense." Indeed it does! Fortunately for we who love Jesus and hunger for justice, Jesus's entire ministry challenges "basic common sense"

This is really fun, except for the songs that give me a panic attack.
I probably did say that.
"The Times wants Trump because it'll sell more papers" has got to be one of the dumbest ideas on social media. Like they're all worried they're going to run out of news
Smart — the Pepto cushions the stomach upset of the Advil, like doing coke and ludes.
Yeah, I agree it is a really bad argument. I think Trump and his admin are cynical rather than stupid, but for sure no good judge would accept it. But it's not like the press sec doesn't know what a legal opinion is.
The word "Trump" does not appear anywhere in the substack this tweet quotes. Krugman says why he left, and it has nothing to do with Trump at all. This claim is horseshit.
