Anyway, good film?

@corblund.bsky.social and @hayescarll.bsky.social put on a great show at Bush Hall. London, last night.
Alberta meets Texas. And also meets Deptford in the form of excellent support from Dave Sutherland.
They're on again tonight - if you've got tickets, you'll have a fab night.

Rattus Norvegicus (Stranglers IV) was the debut studio album by the Stranglers, released 15 Apr 1977. It was one of the best-selling albums of the punk era in Britain, eventually achieving platinum sales. Two tracks, "Peaches" & "(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)" were released as singles. #Stranglers

I'd avoided the re-runs of #ThisLife fearing it might not be as good as I remembered it. But tonight i cracked.
I'm delighted to report that it's still fabulous television. And 40 minutes per episode is a perfect length. No flab, no filler.

The music is perfect too. Ricky Gervais did a hreat job..

Ten years after Brexit, this is the UK: a divided nation frozen in time | Aditya Chakrabortty Tribalism has not faded over the past decade. Instead, new research reveals our politics has become ever-more polarised and fractious, says Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty

Great piece in The Guardian by @chakrabortty.bsky.social on how Britain remains a country divided along Brexit lines - building on my new book with James Tilley:

"Tribal Politics. How Brexit Divided Britain" (global.oup.com/academic/pro...)

It should have done better as the world cottoned on to the ska-punk interface via 2 tone - the Members had been doing the same thing for a while.

Listening to Offshore Banking Business by The Members, it's striking how much of the brass plate opacity and dodgy finanvmcual world was already known about in detail in 1979. Not much changes.

Was typing in a hurry while the OH was spending way too much in a guitar shop.
Based on my Best of Mountain cassette, the 60 second excerpt of Nantucket Sleighride used as the theme to Weekend World in the 1970s/1980s is all the Mountain music you are likely to need.

Weekend World - except from Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain. Their greatest 60 seconds of music by a considerable distance. But great. Made you want to watch current affairs programming. For a couple of minutes anyway.

No no no. Only one of you can be right. This has to be settled the old-fashioned way. A fight in the playground at break time.

And why isn't Joe 90 on tv re-runs? Did the glasses turn him into a dirty old man or something? If not, give him a run out, if only for the theme tune. Which is, in modern parlance, 'a banger', I believe.

Also, Joe 90 - I bought into Captain Scarlet's indestructibility, but I never believed Joe 90 turning into a genius with his glasses.

Video

This heartbreaking footage of Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk preparing for tournaments amid air raid sirens and missile attacks is a stark reminder that russians shouldn't be allowed to participate in international sporting events until they stop their genocidal war and are brought to justice

My favourite of the Anderson Supermarionations. It never occurred to me that his being indestructible took away some of the dramatic jeopardy. I just thought it was great and yah boo to the Mysterons and other villains.
