like it’s kind of getting into “can we separate reality from our subjective experience of it” territory - interesting thought experiment for sure, but i’m not sure what to add to “a collection of nonlinear states” that differentiates a game from photoshop or how clean my apartment is

i think it does! you’re thinking about how to identify a “game” as a pattern in reality completely removed from any context of its creation or the experience of playing it - which tbh i’m not sure is really possible without making the definition so broad it captures almost any self-contained process
hehe yessss it’s so good! i’m def getting more out of it this time too, while at the same time finding myself a bit more skeptical of some the claims about how our brains perceive things (i keep thinking of my aphantasic friend who loves comics)
stumbled across this this thread because i'm rereading Understanding Comics and decided to check if anyone has tried to Scott McCloudify video games...idk if this is that but it's interesting! also i'm curious, would your non-player-centric definition include a game that literally plays itself?
Had a lot of fun with this one, thanks again @thefourthcurtain.bsky.social for having me on ::D
I just started caves of qud last week! I was getting attacked by every low-level salamander due to killing a crocodile of some renown, but now I'm rocking Croccasins on two of my four feet so apparently we're cool? What a game

Hey! Finally decided to migrate over to the bsky account I've been ignoring for over a year. This looks really neat and apparently goes live tomorrow???
