The neat thing about the internet & modern computing is that if you have a good idea & free time & a little bit of disposable income you can manifest all kinds of valuable, interesting things. Unfortunately then people come to rely on those things existing and/or proliferating forever. Uh oh

Sad to hear about Ludum Dare beginning to wind down, but I think it's maybe good for people to be reminded how many of the things they consider indispensable institutions are really a single-digit number of people (often a single person) working very long & hard for little to no money
