NetLogo will always be free for educational and academic use but it's not free to maintain and improve.
If you've taught with it, learned with it, or published with it, help us build what comes next.

The process:
1. Until April 30: Suggest features on the NetLogo Forum
2. Until April 30: Donate any amount to join the vote (donors in 2025 until now are already in)
3. May: Vote via quadratic voting on Voqua
4. End of May: We publish the roadmap
NetLogo has historically been funded by federal research grants. But grants alone aren't a reliable long-term path.
So we're trying something new: community-supported funding paired with community input on what we build next.
New NetLogo experiment: donors vote on our roadmap.
Donate any amount by April 30 → vote in May → we prioritize based on what the community picks.
Here's how it works 🧵

Very cool! Are you willing to share the NetLogo code? Also, we are working on biology curricula with NetLogo. Any chance you are interested in contributing?
How do you make complex systems accessible to kids?
Uri Wilensky, creator of #NetLogo, has an answer: let them build and experiment with their own agent-based models using a representation system that is easy-to-learn yet powerful.

What if one model could realistically predict the economy of an entire country? The entire world? A month-long working group, co-organized by SFI External Professor @doynefarmer.bsky.social, made the case that agent-based models may bring this vision to life:
We are soon to release 7.0.1 and will pin something new, so maybe we'll do this one!
Yeah, that's one way to put it!
Sure! NetLogo was designed to be easy enough to use for children to get started with it, but it is also powerful enough that it used widely in professional research. Happy to answer any more specific questions you have.
Just a quick note: there are only 2 seats left for our “Agent-based and Individual-based Modelling using NetLogo” course, running online from 27 October – 7 November.

We are incredibly excited to announce that Uri Wilensky, the founder of #NetLogo, has been awarded the prestigious Yidan Prize for Educational Research!

Short explanation:
Sound waves → make plate vibrate → sand jumps around. At certain points, the sine waves cancel out → sand stops there
In the model, you can set "nodes" where there is no vibration. For a real plate, these depend on the shape. e.g.: youtube.com/shorts/jSefO...
New in NetLogo 7: a Chladni Plate model you can run in your browser.
Emergent patterns of sand dancing on sound waves! (explanation below 👇)

Great! If you set CORS permisions on your site to allow embeds from netlogoweb.org, you could then embed it in an iframe. Alternatively, you can export the whole thing to a standalone html file which you can host yourself without the CORS issue. You could just link it & people can open in a new tab
These are some very cool materials for learning agent-based modeling applied to archeology!
abmarchaeologists.github.io/ABMA_website
We can use ABMs to theorize about past societies and then compare their outputs to the archeological record.
Very cool! Did you know you could embed a runnable version on your website with NetLogo Web?
We're biased, but we recommend #NetLogo :)
As for arguments, though, the automatic visualization and immediate interactivity really help with verifying your model is actually doing what you intend.
