It's #NBPy week!
The government (weather.gov) think it's going to be mild and sunny, and big tech (google weather app) thinks it's going to rain. Either way, we'll have heaters and a beautiful setting and 18 excellent talks about the tech we build and the people we build it for.
See you there? [β¦]

@offby1 youβre not thinking big enough. I would simply own an airplane that could fit my favorite cars onboard so I could bring them with me.
@glyph extremely happy with our Mach E, happy to give you a test drive in it if youβd like
Because what better thing to talk about at a barn just beyond the edge of Silicon Valley's reality distortion field than things that affect actual people?

A photo of a seated crowd in the barn, as Adrianna Tan is on stage presenting. The slide currently projected on screen reads: Do not want - Work on ads - Work on weapons - Abet genocides - Make the world worse - Use Microsoft Teams

@northbaypython.org returns for its 7th year this Apr 25 & 26! Join us for a tech conference like no other, featuring barn cats, about the tech we build and the people we build it for.
We're a small local event with a global draw. If you've never been, come find out why π

a crop of the north bay python barn and wooden logo set against a blue sky. Superimposed is the text "A conference about the technology we build and the people we build it for (in a barn). North Bay Python 2026"
it did take a few years of pondering, and a few months of delaying putting a website up, but I did land on a description that fits entirely on the tagline section of our home page: "A conference about the technology we build and the people we build it for."

@ambv proving how valuable a paid DiR is to sponsors has paved the way for some of the the most exciting developments in Python land in the past 5 years. It's hard to put into words how lucky we are that this experiment went so well & we owe [β¦]

Good evening even
have you thought about buying your North Bay Python ticket sooner than 12 days out from the event?
If so, you should probably buy your ticket quite soon

We knew, but the proof is nice.
"Apple just proved that AI models cannot do math. Not advanced math. Grade school math. The kind a 10-year-old solves"
The guess-the-next-words machines donβt actually understand anything.

Might be a long shot, but does anyone know a real human I could commission to write a short story in the Catalan/Valencian language? Bonus points if they are queer/adjacent.

@offby1 wtaf is that admission of guilt

Allow me to introduce #MLL coding, the counterpart to #LLM vibe coding. MLL (Manual Labor of Love) coding allows one to spend more time doing a thing, and lets one get better, faster, and 100% understood code.
Slide with the list of volunteers
Slide with the list of CFP reviewers
Slide with a photo of each of the nine conference organizers, with five of those organizers standing and smiling in front of the screen
And thanks to everyone who helped in making this an incredible event! #PyCascades

Thank you once again to Vancouver for being absolutely beautiful. #PyCascades
@pythonbynight safe travels! Will you be at the social tonight?
Photo taken from the last car on the Vancouver train from the airport to the city, looking back towards the airport. Itβs a rainy day with grey skies.
Functioning public transit every five minutes for just $5. Imagine that.
while I have a level of sympathy for the california/colorado style of age-verification law, and I think many reactions against it are overheated, at the end of the day we still have to oppose stuff like this because society's ideas of what ought to be age-gated are just wrong on the merits. the [β¦]
since I see a lot of gloom re Astral x OpenAI:
β Even if Astral actively (malice) or passively (neglect) ruins uv, Python packaging is 1000x better today than 2 yrs ago.
β Ruff is nice but only nice to haveβty is barely usable. We'll be fine if they vanish today.

What a day to be traveling to see friends and meet new ones, with absolutely nothing on my mind whatsoever to talk about.
Shame Iβm going from 80F sunshine to 45F rain though.

Hello fellow cool kids, I'll be arriving in Vancouver early for #PyCascades and would love to get food or hang out in the city Thursday evening or Friday before the social. Whatchy'all got going on?

@chrisjrn I think moreso they are just pathologically incapable of (and incentivized not to) discussing the limitations of their products because marketing and capitalism
