I was given a pixel art rendition to base it on and told details. This is the version they settled on!

There are small hidden details, like the patterns used and the feather being based on a famous japanese bird.

I don't normally draw humans so this was tricky.

I was commissioned to make a character for a book, a 30-something year old japanese swordsman on a mission he isn't expected to come home from.
