I think it's almost always used in being annoyed at people from the US, yes. But fairly, our follows have an intense tendency to forget anyone else on earth exists and we deserve quite a lot of poking these days.

And yes, I understand that at this moment blood thirst is high, but as someone who has counted the dead through outbreaks and attacks - I promise you it will it hit someday. Even if it wasn't your fault, but you voted for the person responsible. It will come for you.

I don't know what to do about the young people who think revolutions are bloodless. I stayed up way too late arguing about this and I don't know how to convince them that while their goals are worthy, rapid change like that never happens without blood.

This is true, but at the very least, for many older diseases we have enough data to have an idea of the death rate in a naive population and we know that immunity does wane. (You don't have to fit it - you can assume at least some portion are just removed permanently)

Why are people making infectious disease models that don't count the dead? Like, you need that D in your SEIR for it to be useful unless you assume your R covers people permanently (which is uncommon).

Doctor's offices where the default chairs are the large ones make me so happy. While I don't need them, they always seem like a signal that the office has thought about it's patients' comfort and mindset. Small signals to people that they are seen and welcome are important!

I am still blankly shocked that they are doing this. What an insult to all of us who worked endless hours during COVID to save lives to platform these people. Another institution that's destroyed its own reputation faster than I thought possible.

I hear so much just insane antisemitism in person in my incredibly lefty area, but everyone just says "Well, I don't see/hear that where I am." so I stopped talking about it.

A friend used to give me Hebrew lessons in this bar (I was banned from learning as a kid cause German Jews and PTSD, blah blah) and we definitely go to places far from home for that or our houses now.

This was also the closest I ever came from getting banned from a bar when I lost it and yelled about the summer before Oct 7 when everyone was trying to get rid of him and none of these people cared at ALL.

Exactly that! While moving my classes online was exhausting and hard, it made life so much better for everyone, I'm happy to do live online teaching any time now.

And organizing in online spaces should always be easy for people who can't move through the world easily! That's the bonus!
