This mornings commute funny: a 20 something taking her escalator selfie got to the bottom and suddenly learned commuters do not stop so you can be cute on Insta.

Maybe the cure for main character syndrome is becoming an escalump?

Some Mondays seem so perfectly Monday-ish, it feels like a terrible omen for the week. Exploding trash bags, leaking ice packs, knocked over coffee, spoiled milk, etc.

Please let all the frustrations be packed into one day! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

I think it's almost always used in being annoyed at people from the US, yes. But fairly, our follows have an intense tendency to forget anyone else on earth exists and we deserve quite a lot of poking these days.

Genuinely curious why it bothers you both. We are not all of the Americas and yet have claimed the word for whole contents. If the only alternatives are the two, I use USian to make the point in some discussions, particularly given our current stance towards the rest of the Americas.

The most interesting thing about that quote is that Sam Harris does not think of *himself* as captured by a political and ideological agenda, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Last night's anxiety dream involved my mother rearranging my kitchen around me while I was cooking and a friend of mine "cleaning" by putting away everything on the set table and throwing out a cooling pie.

Maybe I need a day of no humans? Or I only like cooking alone?

I swear if this kid had picked possibly ANYONE else, I would be less mad at him. Truly. But like - civil rights in the US as a whole and MLK were "bloodless revolution"? How very dare you disrespect the dead and scarred like that?! I cannot see that position. I do not understand.

I mean... I'm unconvinced that the pacifist face of MLK we see in easy quotes is all of him, given his full writings. But like... He so clearly saw himself as part of a generational fight that was never bloodless. How could anyone? There are so many dead in that fight. Uncountable numbers.

I mean... The US would be possibly saner if we accepted that "impartial news" is not a thing and let papers just be a side? But you're not wrong to the point I ran a list in my head and laughed.

He cites MLK as "bloodless revolution" and my guy 1) bloodless???? How dare you. The number of people who bled and died for civil rights in the US just in MLK's lifetime is soul shattering and 2) given current civil rights - what revolution? He tried so hard and the world just did not fix itself.

I mean, that sounds lovely, but I think that's the outcome everyone hoped for like 5 minutes before they started the purge?

(I got your joke - I'm not that good at it?)

5 days ago 1 0 0 0

And yes, I understand that at this moment blood thirst is high, but as someone who has counted the dead through outbreaks and attacks - I promise you it will it hit someday. Even if it wasn't your fault, but you voted for the person responsible. It will come for you.

I don't know what to do about the young people who think revolutions are bloodless. I stayed up way too late arguing about this and I don't know how to convince them that while their goals are worthy, rapid change like that never happens without blood.

Oh, I appreciate the hugs, but you should be laughing at me! I'm laughing at past dsky!

I am somewhat better now, but probably still have a couple levels of work intensity to ramp down after a career in response and associated fields?

I would like note that I'm currently dating USG policy documents for someone by which breakups they caused and this is both ridiculous and hilarious.

Also, man I need more therapy. I can actually date 4 policies to the end of my relationships and that seems like a problem?

Also, I love that my originally silly social media has people who will disagree with me on this. I think you're right for many things BTW. I sounded more absolutist there than I meant to.

This is true, but at the very least, for many older diseases we have enough data to have an idea of the death rate in a naive population and we know that immunity does wane. (You don't have to fit it - you can assume at least some portion are just removed permanently)

Why are people making infectious disease models that don't count the dead? Like, you need that D in your SEIR for it to be useful unless you assume your R covers people permanently (which is uncommon).

I'm very annoyed at these policy people who write annoying models. SEIRD are easy!

I mean, it's bringing many of my currently and formerly Catholic friends a hilarious amount of joy.

Doctor's offices where the default chairs are the large ones make me so happy. While I don't need them, they always seem like a signal that the office has thought about it's patients' comfort and mindset. Small signals to people that they are seen and welcome are important!

I am still blankly shocked that they are doing this. What an insult to all of us who worked endless hours during COVID to save lives to platform these people. Another institution that's destroyed its own reputation faster than I thought possible.

Alright. I'm asking my 3D friends to be ridiculous as I wait for family info. Internet friends, please bring me your silliness in whatever form that is for you - gardens, pets, memes, Alf, NSFW. Any of it please?

Also, man I hope I didn't ruin your day with this. It's not good.

I hear so much just insane antisemitism in person in my incredibly lefty area, but everyone just says "Well, I don't see/hear that where I am." so I stopped talking about it.

A friend used to give me Hebrew lessons in this bar (I was banned from learning as a kid cause German Jews and PTSD, blah blah) and we definitely go to places far from home for that or our houses now.

I'm not having a good couple years in my lefty spaces man.

This was also the closest I ever came from getting banned from a bar when I lost it and yelled about the summer before Oct 7 when everyone was trying to get rid of him and none of these people cared at ALL.

Exactly that! While moving my classes online was exhausting and hard, it made life so much better for everyone, I'm happy to do live online teaching any time now.

And organizing in online spaces should always be easy for people who can't move through the world easily! That's the bonus!

Man, I'm still thinking about how when we caught the person who kept writing "K*ll the J*ws" in the bar bathroom repeatedly (insta edits so I don't get autobanned), he said "I mean, I just meant the ones that like Netanyahu and Israelis! Not you guys!"

Yeah, baby, that doesn't fucking help?

That's so lovely. As someone who unpredictably can't walk across my apartment - all my love for that "This is obvious!"

As long as we're including adult caregivers in "families" and complex families, not just parents of small children. (From the cover it does not look like that would be a problem, but I exist in society and am tired, so.)
