i think the problem with soulslike as a genre arises when people start using it to define "literally anything at all that feels like dark souls" like with hollow knight, which shares basically 0 core mechanics but "it's sad, there's a lot of lore, and you have to recollect your souls when you die"

i think dark souls is sufficiently transformative in it's mechanics to warrant becoming a sort of sub-genre of action rpg, kinda like how binding of isaac is the ur twinstick roguelike, and hades is a BoI-like but with it's own spin on things

basically that, yeah. whenever spiderverse 3 comes out i'll just default to "spiderverse 2 and 3 are one single fuckass big movie"

assuming it actually, you know, picks up from 2 and finishes. then it'll be good. if it doesn't, then i'll just die i guess

it's infinitely more funny when i come at it from the fact that my favourite piece of fiction is an unfinished quest hosted in spacebattles. i knew that prior to starting it though, while i didn't with spiderverse 2
