The copper Buddha on a bright sunny day. You can actually go inside it.
This is a temple to a different aspect of the Buddha. You can’t take any photos inside the main shrine but there’s a large beautiful statue made of camphor wood.
Same temple but lower down the hill, it’s a cave with carvings and shrines. Some of the passages are low and you have to walk doubled over.
A large lovely Shinto shrine. I couldn’t see all of it because I couldn’t make it up the stairs to the upper part.
We’re having a fantastic time in Japan. This is all from Kamakura.

The downside of having done this is being unable to share with you the fact of the dude who passed me lugging a couch atop a shopping cart, crossed the street into St. Johns Plaza, installed it outside a vacant storefront, took off his shirt, and lay down, so I’m cheating to do so here.

There's also been a little jump in preorders for the next two books in THE OCTOBER GIRL series, so I'm hoping some readers are liking one series and then going to check out the other one.

My contributions to that have plummeted since installing a userscript to remove all the “new post” buttons.

Yeah. I mean (you know this, obvs), it was the standard way blog comments worked for a long time. Didn’t stop any given rando from just scrolling to the bottom, but even with my agitators on Portland Communique, most everyone was not just reading the post but reading the comments.

I genuinely believe that making people scroll past the thread and the replies before reaching the reply box would solve so many problems.

it really is the mundanity that makes this feel different from any other footage i've ever seen from out there. it's like when i was eight and saw saturn through what was basically a toy telescope in my backyard for the first time and had to go sit down and think about things

Still thinking about Cinnamon Jones every day. 🎭✨
ARCHANGELS OF FUNK (2025 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize finalist) is about what we do when the Water Wars scramble the world—when nostalgia militias roam and Darknet Lords troll for power.

A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!
Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....

the use case for this is drone cops that can chase you where cars can't go, while the meat cops eat donuts and play it like a videogame
