Depending on the age, you might try more difficult versions. I have an extra hard version just for challenging myself:

There's so much a kids brain can do, even before they learn to count.

I created Opal because I couldn't wait to start exploring numbers with my son.

This game focuses on building estimation skills while building towards counting & cardinality.

With grade 3 I used describe it like this:

“When it’s half as big, you need twice as many.”

It was a really good entry point because we could then do things like “if a bucket is half full, you need twice as many” etc.

Boy do I miss those conversations.

The tragedy of AI in schools is that people are once again being duped into believing that the panacea for learning must be something that removes the need for an abundance of great teachers as opposed to something that creates an abundance of great teachers.

Giving students the autonomy to attempt problems on their own should not be conflated with giving them the responsibility to learn on their own.

The feedback cycle is necessary for learning and you cannot get feedback without trying.

Approximate Number Sense in young children is a key predictor of later success in math.

But how good is your approximate number sense?

Definitely.

I can’t ever see myself pointing to a symbol or expression and saying “is this a number?”.

I’d rather ask,

“What idea is this symbol designed to communicate? Why was it designed that way?”

And

“What is being communicated in this context? Is it ambiguous or well defined”

Without a clear definition of what a “number” is.

I don’t know why we would speculate as to what is or isn’t a number.

Or why that would be a valuable distinction for elementary students.

"Just imagine how much better these tools are going to get!"

... is a sentence that should be banned from every AI pitch deck.
