You do see that guy has a completely different face than me, right?

Honestly the only good use of Leto I’ve seen in what has proven to be an astoundingly durable career. Consistently the worst part of everything he does, yet somehow continues to work. And that docu-drama was so good I still think of it every time I use the WeWork in Glendale.

Unpopular opinion, but I think it’s good to practice empathy even towards people who don’t practice empathy.

(I say “unpopular” bc they crucified the first guy who built a platform on that)

Hi Alexander! I’m afraid my pinned joke may have given you the wrong idea about my identity; the last bit about “with a different face for some reason” is more or less a “/s” tone indicator. I’m a different software engineer with the same name. :) people love that guy’s work though!

Never actually played the game, but I’ve been getting email for that guy since I was in 5th grade… people love his work, I know that for sure

I was floored by the AirPods translate functionality… wonder how well it works outside of marketing material? Felt very Star Trek as advertised

Oh yeah, have a blast, love the chatbot as a chatbot, I was more referring to coders writing auth systems using agents and expecting them to pass any kind of audit

I wonder if maybe Cracker Barrel is to Christmas trends what Milan is to fashion trends. Maybe all the grandparents go to Cracker Barrel on Sep 1st like designers go to Italy in 2025 for what they’re gonna sell at Target in 2026.

So I lost a day of focus and productivity at work calling every pharmacy in town; no one will pay for that but me. Oh well.

Not as frustrating as some have it… and I’m far from the first to say it. but: I’m not a fan of the current system. We should improve society somewhat.

ADHD meds are controlled substances; meaning you can still get them with a doctor’s prescription, but are legally required to be inconvenienced several hours per month when picking them up.

(my old pharmacy got sold to a new owner who “doesn’t sell narcotics”; 24 hours later I have a new pharmacy)

Imagining leading a new employee orientation, but all of the employees are bots who keep telling me what a good job I’m doing… while completely failing to grasp anything else I’ve said

(which tbf is not that different from regular human onboarding)

Split your format and lint jobs so they can run in parallel, independently of your test and build jobs

Other people in my peer group may have families, communities, and their mental health, but last month I reduced my team’s CI from 35 minutes to 7, so who’s **really** winning the game here

And the presets idea is intriguing, sounds like a great way to add versatility out of the box!

We were thinking through dependency configs specifically… we have lots of internal, interdependent packages, but if a dev removes a crate and doesn’t update the config, we get an error in CI.

Here’s a sample repo that can generate a config, still pondering when to run github.com/johncarmack1...

Jacob! I'm so glad you posted this, it's how I found your profile! We use covector at our company (www.flightscience.ai) and I love it! Releases & PRs are so fast and convenient.

Was wondering today: do you know of any projects that have successfully automated creation/maintenance of config.json?

It’s really funny how Vince Gilligan cast the perfect Gus Fring—a man so unassuming and even-tempered he fits right in as the New Mexico Dave Thomas—and a decade later casting Giancarlo is shorthand for “hey this is the bad guy”

A panel from a Calvin and Hobbes comic. Calvin's mom, eating dinner, says "Life could be worse, Calvin." Calvin, clearly upset, his mouth huge says "Life could be a lot BETTER too!"

I think about this comic all the time.

I just created a quick map depicting which portions of the United States are now (as of today) or will imminently be (by early June) without 24/7 local National Weather Service coverage (per Washington Post reporting). #CAwx #CAfire #CAwater #ORwx #AKwx #WYwx #KSwx

Generative AI hallucinating makes it completely useless for the thing we want it to do but people are using it for that thing anyway and that is terrifying
