Growing up, one friend had a grandfather who didn’t believe the Civil War was over.

“We didn’t lose! It’s just a cease fire!”

We’d laugh so hard and quoted that so often. For a kid learning from a history book, that level of ignorance is hilarious.

To look back on it with adult eyes is sobering.
