Still got it! It was one of those tunes to keep one awake while driving overnight to the Channel ports.

Some of the bats the Echo Meter picked up were unexpected, but we checked with the local bat group who said that these particular species are indeed present in our area. The bat detector is very small - ~4 cm x 3 cm - very light and goes with us on trips.

Their sounds are surreal, musical almost.

Bats are wonderful! We bought a bat detector. We knew we had pipistrelles but were amazed to find that we actually have about 8 different species. It's a tiny gizmo called an EchoMeter which plugs into your phone, records & plays their ultrasonic calls & identifies the possible species of bat, live.

or a photo which needs no caption because it touches you somewhere quite profound, or the narrative communicated in a sculpture. Every piece of art we've bought from an artist is part of an assembly of memories, of creative people & their vibrancy & energy, of moments when we knew that was the one.

Buying art rather than reproductions gives a much greater choice than choosing from a selection which someone else decided was worthy of putting on your walls. It's the joy of glimpsing the process (the brush strokes, the overpainting), the interaction between colour & shape & structure...

Someone in a book club I used to attend suggested On The Beach as our next book. She hadn't read it, but thought it would be a relaxing story about summer holidays.

I didn't go to the session where they discussed it.

Very powerful.

Is it like having a Very Serious Teams meeting where people's cats bounce up on to their desks, parade across the screen and pat the keyboard?

We've got Booths. Booths are brilliant. They support small & local producers but sell big brands too. They seem to keep their staff for ages, treat them well & employ older people too.

We self-catered in Wroxham & before we went people said everywhere is Roy's. I assumed they were exaggerating...

I’m sorry for you, your wife and your family that your lives and hopes changed direction so unexpectedly.

Detecting & persecuting the English is now not only happening in shops. It’s gone further. Someone on local (English) social media seriously claimed that speed cameras in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 20mph areas are set up to ignore Welsh residents and capture only English vehicles.

I don’t think you grow out of the thrill! I’m not a birder but I do feel privileged when our woodpecker turns up.

It doesn't specify who is allowed to wear dresses & as there are 14 pages of rules I'm disinclined to read them all. I did note that were I to apply, they want my post-nominals. As far as clubs go,I think I'll be sticking to my health club membership which lets me brazenly swan around in a swimsuit.

Yes, I checked. £198 was the cheapest fare available on that Saturday (early morning) returning early evening the same day. Some organisations (not just this one) have no concept that some of us live in places which do not have trains 24/7 or have easy access to a main station for London.

Train fare for me would be a minimum of £200. A dress code, too. Just looking at the venue, it seems that women are expected to wear a dress or skirt. I won't be going, but if I have to walk round London, smart shoes are the last thing I would choose. Why did they select somewhere so luxurious?

I remember the excitement when he was elected as an MP. An exceptional, persistent and reflective person who gave hope that Cymru would not forever be an entirely subordinate nation.

The waiting is horrible and gnaws away at your soul. I'll watch out for news. Meanwhile I hope that kitty is more comfortable.

Poor kitty. What's up with her or him?

When all that was done with our cat, we decided that the procedures meant that the vet could proceed with evidence- based treatment rather than trying this and that to see what worked.

Mine has had to be less complacent since nearly losing at the last GE. Nevertheless the suspension on my car has had to be repaired 3 times solely due to our roads. It makes you think twice before venturing anywhere & unless driving a tractor you really need two people, one to watch for potholes.

I think it's to do with being charged for careless rather than dangerous driving. The judge queried why the lesser charge had been brought and the CPS is being asked to clarify. I agree that the charge and sentence do not adequately address the death of the little girl.

I just showed it to my husband who immediately thought that it’s an internal error and you’re seeing the screen or part of the screen that the staff would see.

It still needs feeding back to the surgery.

Will you give the surgery feedback on this incomprehensible list of options?

If someone who did what you did in your professional life and who is computer literate can't work out how to use it to make a simple appointment, there is something seriously wrong with the form.

Neither do I. This sort of thing is so excluding. I often wonder how far designers give any thought whatsoever to how people like my mum (registered blind) will manage. Several times I've seen older people in the pharmacy practically in tears because they have needs & can't make the system work.

It does. When they keep on thriving despite illness, and their blips can be readily treated, you tend to think it's all gone away, so it's hard to believe that this really is the end. They have a lovely vet who took time to explain the diagnostic tests and that helped.

Thank you! She is eating very well (no-one is trying to psych her off her food now) and she is a bit more clingy, but I'm sure that will pass. She seemed to know he was getting more poorly.

You both have gorgeous cats! ❤️

One of our two rehomed cats had to be euthanised a few days ago, aged 16¼ yrs, & his twin sister has decided we're honorary cats. We can't go anywhere! (We are devastated, but two years ago we were told six months, so every month has been a lovely & happy delight.)
