I like the look but I am hoping adding in highlights + finishing up can help give the render an older look. I was aiming for a one-off 3D celshaded 2000's OVA look lmao.

Not the 90's prerender, but since the topology was nice thought it would be fun to do a little test render with subdiv + a simple celshader :)

Still need to do highlights and fit still base mesh stuffs. When I finish the fit + textures should be able to render both styles out!

Wanted to take a small break this week from my usual modeling to do some mid/highpoly!

I have done both versions before, and I think your method is totally chill! If you are going to have clothes over anyways I don't think that matters too much. If you want to the body details that the other topology helps provide you can always just paint that on!
