JRG is a failed program entrenching inequality & lumping students from law to commerce with crippling debt.

It's been in place for longer now under the Albanese Govt than under Morrison Govt.

Reform is overdue & desperately urgent but progressing at a snails pace.

Anthropic to build power, fund grid upgrades for future data centres Evan Frondorf, a senior executive at Anthropic, tells Senate committee the AI giant would invest heavily in new power supply to support its data centres.

Yesterday I asked Anthropic about their plans for data centres in 🇦🇺 & the impact on water and electricity demand.

We hear a lot about the potential of AI & data centres, but not much about the massive risks & need for safeguards against the misuse of AI & data centres guzzling our precious water.

‘Worst thing I’ve ever seen’: CSIRO slashes climate modelling jobs Australia’s science agency is cutting more than 100 jobs in its Environment Research Unit, which critics say will crush our capacity to predict climate change.

CSIRO have now lost more jobs under the Albanese Governmet than under the Abbott Government.

We have to do better on research funding and backing our scientists.

Australian energy bills could surge as Iran conflict drives up global gas prices Experts warn of similarities with 2022, when electricity prices went up by more than 40% due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Gas companies that export 🇦🇺 gas are about to make windfall profits after strikes on Iran & we have no plan to capture that value for 🇦🇺

To fix this, we need a 25% tax on gas exports that would raise billions of💲of revenue & ensure that when prices rise, 🇦🇺 benefits

Two big tax holes are perpetuating Australia's wealth inequality Intergenerational inequality will only be dealt with by taxing the people that have the money, not by cutting the taxes of those who don't have it.

Alan Kohler talking about the urgent need to tackle inequality. The major parties talk about it a lot but don't seem to want to do what it'll take:

💸 changes to CGT discount on investment properties

💸 start taxing wealth more than work

💸 get a fair return for our natural resources

Anti-corruption boss given 'please explain' by government over Defence ties Attorney-General Michelle Rowland asked Paul Brereton to explain why his ongoing ties to Defence had not been "adequately" disclosed in a letter sent last year.

Public faith in anti-corruption institutions is fragile and hard won. Commissioner Brereton’s handling of his Defence connections, and his inability to clearly account for them over time, has weakened confidence in the NACC.

He should consider stepping aside to rebuild public trust in the NACC.

There’s a real opportunity for sensible reform to the CGT discount on investment properties to incentivise the new housing supply.

It’s something Senator Lambie & I had the PBO model years ago & will keep pushing the govt to implement.

It won’t solve housing affordability on its own but it’ll help

Grid hits major milestone as coal, gas shrink amid 'tripling' battery discharge Amid fits and starts, Australia's energy transition turned a big corner in 2025, as renewables shot past fossil fuels despite demand records.

Renewables supplied ⬆️ half our electricity over a full quarter.

Rooftop solar played a major role, meeting much of the growth in demand while cutting costs & emissions.

To build on this, we need to ensure households benefit & make it easier for renters & people in apartments to take part.

Would-be tenants queried on 'lifestyle' in 50-question rental applications Tenants are being forced to hand over excessive personal data when applying for rental properties, with new research warning that applicants' personal information could be at risk.

Renters in 🇦🇺 continue to get an incredibly raw deal as this AHURI research shows.

Renters shouldn’t have to handover unnecessary amounts of personal data to companies often exempt from our (already inadequate) federal privacy laws.

National cabinet was supposed to deal with this in 2023…🦗

Big batteries are on track to pump more electricity into the grid than gas next year & could bring down electricity prices

We have the technology to transition and bring down prices - we need to ensure that the benefits flow to Australian households.

This isn’t business as usual.

Potentially significant cuts are coming to the Australian Public Service and I want to know what this means for service delivery and for jobs.

Labor promised to protect the APS, they need to honour that promise.

Scathing ‘jobs for mates’ review finds appointments to government boards routinely abused A report by Lynelle Briggs says placements ‘look like nepotism’ and are undermining confidence in government

I've worked hard with all non-govt senators to secure release of the Briggs review.

Now it's clear why the Albanese Govt was hiding it for two years.

They are refusing to implement recommendations designed to ensure we have merit-based appointments 🤯

‘Patronage, nepotism’: Labor releases damning jobs-for-mates report Finance Minister Katy Gallagher commissioned the review in early 2023 after the Coalition was accused of stacking dozens of plum positions.

Very disappointing the Albanese Govt has refused to accept the full suite of recommendations from the Briggs Review designed to stop the jobs for mates culture in federal politics.

No surprise there is such low trust in politicians!

Communities constantly call for more integrity but are ignored.

This isn't good enough & wastes funding provided jointly by the Commonwealth.

How can a website cost $96 MILLION?! 🤯

Yes the BOM website is complex, but this seems like is a waste of taxpayers dollars that we need see some accountability for so it doesn’t happen again.

Looming east coast gas reserve could cut prices by 20pc Labor is targeting a domestic reservation system that would ensure enough extra gas to bring down prices but not so much that producers rein in output.

Australia doesn't have a gas supply problem, we have a gas export problem.

Good to see the govt considering diverting export gas to the 🇦🇺 market. This should apply to existing projects. There's simply no need for new gas.
