Minnesota State Auditor Julie Blaha released the following statement on this morning’s fatal shooting in Minneapolis: "ICE proves again that it is not safe to have them in Minnesota. Another community member was killed by federal agents in Minneapolis this morning. As we continue to grieve with the family of Renee Nicole Macklin Good, my heart is pulled toward Alex Pretti’s family as they now too face a devastating loss. No family should have to experience and grieve the violent death of a loved one in such a public way. Both families deserve answers. Both families deserve accountability. The Trump administration has repeatedly misrepresented, inflated, and straight out lied about the results of Operation Metro Surge. ICE’s needlessly aggressive tactics leave Minnesotans in fear, injury, and even death. No matter how you calculate it, ICE is too dangerous for Minnesota. I join with Governor Walz, Minneapolis legislators, local officials, and countless Minnesotans in demanding that ICE leave Minnesota now. While we exercise our First Amendment rights to share our justifiable outrage, let’s be loud and strong and continue to stand for and with our neighbors. We cannot accept a poorly trained agency that refuses to follow the law and leaves our communities traumatized in its wake. What has made people safer, time and time again, is hyper-local organizing. Neighbors watching out for each other. Checking in. Giving rides. Delivering food. Showing up. Whether you’re in the metro or in Greater Minnesota, safety grows when neighbors connect with neighbors. Go over and say hello. Exchange phone numbers. Get to know their kids and pets. Take care of each other. That is how we protect our communities."

"It is a devastating day in Minnesota. A federal ICE agent shot and killed one of our community members, Renee Nicole Good. This was as preventable as it is shocking. I’m thinking of her family as they face an unimaginable loss. I also recognize the bystanders who witnessed this violence as they were protecting their neighbors. Trauma like this has a lasting impact far beyond a single moment and touches an entire community. ICE’s presence in our state has not made Minnesota any safer, and instead has brought fear, chaos, and harm into our neighborhoods. For the sake of the safety of Minnesotans, ICE needs to leave Minnesota now. For the sake of the integrity of an investigation, federal officials need to reserve judgment until they have reviewed the evidence. The major, obvious errors evident in the Trump administration's characterization of the shooting suggest they have not made even a cursory review of the facts. Like many of you, I’m angry and heartbroken. It’s important that we stay connected to the truth, protest peacefully, and watch out for our neighbors. It’s clear that President Trump and his administration will be looking for a reason to escalate this moment. We don’t need to give them one."
