Yes. In those cases it gets soundly rejected under scrutiny and often the behavior is traced back to before the fiction ever came into play, or is recognized as irrelevant in the face of overwhelming mental health issues.
Side note: the few cases that pop up citing fiction as the reason for harm are simply people who don’t want to take accountability for doing something horrible. And by allowing that as an excuse society encourages a lack of responsibility and introspection for how we get to points of violence.
Yup! It’s inane for people to think they are the only ones consuming it “correctly” and usually means they can’t see past extremely surface level themes… and IMO they are examples of the Dunning-Krueger effect most of the time.
I mean studies show the opposite is true and that most people consuming dark or disturbing media can handle it just fine and don’t act on anything dangerous because of it.

It is an inherently conservative mindset to claim that you are one of a small group of people able to *morally* consume media you find to be immoral, or capable of seeing the immorality of it, and almost always paired with an extreme level of hypocrisy and media illiteracy.
Man I never even saw Hamilton and people’s inability to let people enjoy a fictionalized version of a thing is nuts to me.
I was not impressed and part of the reason why I didn’t get into OFMD to see those fans harassing Hamiliton fans over romanticizing history when they did the same thing with their show.

Hannibal did keep his emotional support rat with him at all times. It was a very large rat. He held it against his chest and shoulder while he served dinners.
Will started jogging and just refused to acknowledge Hannibal most of the time. It was not good.
Then there was a proper fifth season but it had to resolve the weirdness of season four before it could get to Hannibal and Will being murder husbands again.
