From what I saw in the Cork North Central boxes at the tally this morning the spoiled votes were a mix of genuine mistakes and intentional spoils, just like usual, but they were not all one group and shouldn’t be seen as that.
Many unhappy from traditional parties choosing to spoil too.

Galway Independent TD Catherine Connolly says she's made her mind up to run for president.
Connolly confirmed to the Galway City Tribune yesterday that she will launch her campaign formally next week. http://jrnl.ie/6760029

Minister Buttimer doing everything possible to deflect and deny that his party’s government has not done anywhere enough to change driver behaviour or to reduce car use for over a decade now. 🙄

Fake account, unfollowed.
Seriously, any large account over on the bird site needs to at least make placeholders here to prevent this.
Thank you for your email. We have raised the issue with BlueSky and we are just now managing this issue. Met Éireann does not control any official account on BlueSky platform and any form of communication there is an impersonation from the account holder. Best regards, Forecast Office Met Éireann
Just got this from them…
That’s a pain. They really should have placeholder accounts to at least prevent this kind of thing.
MET Éireann coming to BlueSky is great to see and especially now when it’s vital that information is easy for people to access.
Oíche na Gaoithe Móire arís.

The hourly forecast is now matching the advisory, 2am to 10am.
Definitely, I’m trying to somehow anticipate what might happen with kiddos school, spouses work and my work to see if we need to ask someone to mind smallies.
Local hourly forecast on the Met Éireann site showing red warning from 6am to midday on Friday.
Warning for Cork, Kerry, Limerick. Time given is 2am to 10am for the red status.
Bit of contradictory info on the Met Éireann site atm. The area forecast for Cork City says Red up to midday Friday but “advisory” says 2am to 10am.
Is it localised further than the 3 counties, an update in times or a mistake?

1 year after the introduction of a generalized 30 km/h limit in Bologna, the results are quite encouraging.
For the first time since systematic data has been collected (1991), there has been zero (zero!) pedestrian killed in a road accident in 2024.

A painted electricity box, I’m 99.99% sure that this is Michael Collins on his bike. A statue of the same is on Grand Parade in Cork.
New bike lane on Dublin’s Quays, wide, freshly marked and with concrete kerbing as protection. Really lovely to cycle on.
On today’s adventures by bike and train I found two lovely things in Dublin (besides the road to Cork 😅)

There are people driving on our roads who would kill us and leave us for dead. We don't want to hear about shared responsibility or wearing hi viz.
We want segregated cycle lanes, more enforcement and higher penalties for those who drive in a way that puts lives at risk.

“Majority of cycle lanes” across Cork City starting and ending in shared paths which is normalising cycling on footpaths, campaigners say
Conflict between people cycling and those on foot is being baked into the design of many cycle routes built with the "majority of cycle lanes" across Cork City…
After the repairs, is illegal parking on footpaths going to be enforced to prevent more repairs being needed again? Or will it be used again by Cllr's as a vote winner in 5 years to dump more of our taxes into problems caused by motorists?
Yep, that works fine, it’s the map I mentioned above but the electricity network provider of our country shouldn’t have a dead link within two clicks of their front page, it’s sloppy imo.
Also any chance we can speed up the migration over here by various company CS accounts?
I'm going to have to write and email now instead of just tagging them in 😅
Screenshot of a website page: esbnetworks.ie/power-outages showing link to "Power Outages Latest Updates"
The page that this links to, a 404 error with the following link address: https://www.esbnetworks.ie/newsroom/blog-post/2021/05/14/customer-information-during-large-scale-electricity-interruptions Showing it was last updated in 2021
Trying to check a status of a power outage for a friend (who has turned off all internet, saving phone battery) & the link from the Power Outages page of the ESB site leads to a 404 error with a URL likely last updated in 2021.
The map is great but this is not good 😬

Check out #Sneckdown for examples from all over the world too 😀
If you can get a good wide angle picture it’s a great tool when road designs are being suggested

Great example of a Sneckdown right there alright
Sneckdown:
When snow reveals the excess space cars don’t use on streets and intersections, exposing opportunities to narrow roads or reclaim space for safer, more people-friendly design. It’s nature’s blueprint for better urban planning.

If you’re in Cork I’d be delighted to show you around the city, it was part of my job in a previous career to give tours to visiting US colleagues so I have references 😆

2024 brought good progress: new designs based on the NTA 2023 guidelines, a renovated Marina, and new sections of Greenway.
Yet, Páirc Uí Chaoimh still lacks proper bike parking. Time to change that! 🚴♀️

Got home before the chill set in, just about.
The council were treating the footpaths which was good to see.
Selfie. I’m wearing a red bike helmet, a dark red snood and a yellow coat. The bike in the background has two bags loaded with food. One of the bags has the logo of Save the Bride Otters.
Front rack of my bike, Christmas lights around the edge, a cook at home pizza is on the rack with a bungee under the label holding it in place.
First time out on the bike this year, a doctors appt, cinema for sing a long Wicked & then picking up some food.
It’s like the pizza wrapper was made for my front rack (it still has its lights cos it’s still Christmas!) 🤣
Normal day, normal bike ride.

I’ve two signed books on pre order and I’m very excited to get them. Thank you so much for keeping up this tradition.
"A pedestrian isn't going to kill a motorist but a motorist will kill a pedestrian very easily. A pedestrian hit by a car travelling at 30km per hour, they've a 95% survival rate but when (the speed of the car) goes up to 45 km per hour its reduced to 50%.”
But when change is suggested we’ve this
