Drivers here are so much worse than leadership is even coming close to understanding, or else they literally are those drivers

WI AGA-6056 silver VW suv, white guy holding a coffee driving
On a Saturday morning in WFB you still encounter an aggressive driver who slows to roll their window down and yell at you, obstructing oncoming traffic, then accelerating away to sit at the next red light. Good work doing absolutely nothing to impact bike and ped safety, WFB trustees.
One of these was down not long ago around the OLT. It was hit by a car. How do I know, you ask? The headlight wedged inside it was a strong clue.
Why are people walking in the street today? Oh right, it rained last night and sidewalks and crosswalks all over town are flooded.
Cargo bike today since picking up two kids after work en route to home. Best parking spot in the house, 15’ from a side entry door to the building I’m at today.
WFB and the wider region has many folks on trikes like this, yet we force them into traffic and give them no place to park them. Because we don’t care about them.
If designed inclusively, cycling infrastructure offers independent mobility to those with physical impairments who are left behind by car dependence.
For many people housebound or reliant on others for transport, two—or three—wheeled travel isn’t just a form of movement, it’s a form of empowerment.
graphic of a cup of coffee prioritizing youth mobility is prioritizing adult relaxing When kids can walk/roll safely and independently to school, you can enjoy some peaceful time to yourself.
youth mobility = adult relaxing
I'm in this fight to do less more often.

Stroads were once an implausible dystopian nightmare.

Infrastructure lighting can make all the difference as to whether people feel comfortable using it or not.
All the kids off school today have the streets to themselves because the adults aren’t driving anywhere. Weird thing that we choose to only allow like 4 times a year but constantly whine that kids don’t go outside anymore.
This is a great start. A bit hard to describe what I need but a fast search interface and easy to see things narrowed real time etc. Great photos though!
We’re so grateful to @perennialcycle.bsky.social for helping us with a very exciting new bike day…
Our cargo bike library now has an Urban Arrow!
This bike will be available to members to borrow for FREE when we reopen later this spring.

Does a repository of good bike infra photos exist? Preferably reasonably well tagged and categorized, references to original sources etc where possible. Images framed and exposed in pleasing ways that are good for advocacy materials?
shared street sign in austria
shared street sign showing speed limit of 20km per hour, a large pedestrian, and smaller bike and car
there is a reason basically every shared street sign in the world has a pictogram indicating children or pedestrians are present.
SDOT is choosing to ignore this precedent.
because they only prioritize cars.
Lie: Bike-lanes cause traffic congestion.
Truth: Bike-lanes help solve traffic congestion.
Lie: Bike-lanes hurt street shops if they replace parking.
Truth: Bike-lanes help street shops more than street parking does.
Lie: Bike-lanes cost us too much.
Truth: Bike-lanes save us all public money.
I view these e-motos with the same disgust that I do cars in cities. I understand this upsets some people, but their design is aggressive and overpowered. This hijacks the irresponsibility mechanism of their operators and puts others in unnecessary danger. Ban them.
A picture of a red lighthouse on Milwaukee's Lake Michigan Shore, with a silver road bike pulling a yellow trailer in the foreground. A headline says "Milwaukee Bike Rides dot com" in the colors of the people's Milwaukee flag. Smaller text says "A hand-curated attempt to build a directory of bike riding groups in the Milwaukee area."
Every spring I hear people wondering how to find bike groups in the Milwaukee area, so I figured someone ought to sit down and list them all. That list is www.milwaukeebikerides.com
Jane Jacobs would’ve loved @wesmars.bsky.social’s book Killed by a Traffic Engineer.
Currently reading one of Jane Jacobs' lesser known books, written decades after Death and Life.
Her loathing for cars (and Robert Moses) did not diminish with age.
"Not TV or illegal drugs but the automobile has been the chief destroyer of American communities."

How many more studies does your city need proving that people on bikes and on foot spend more on shopping streets than people in cars?
But the store owner LOVES parking in that spot right outside…
Bike-lanes mean business. #UrbanTruth
Yes of course we were biking around today. Yes of course everyone biking around today noticed that the parkways were choked with bikes and pedestrians. Yes of course our respective Park Boards/Departments should begin closing parkway roads to cars on weekends this summer. Or weekdays. Or both.

Huge thank you to the amazingly talented @hamburglar1004.bsky.social for gifting me this lovely piece he made featuring my family’s old synagogue Congregation Beth Israel on Teutonia & Meinecke. Today it is the Greater Galilee Baptist Church.
Check out his amazing art here: johnoneilldrawings.com
We've all been there.

Bikes are such an elegant way of getting places.
