history is unfixed; reactivating the archive - even from absence, or destruction, or silence (so many archives are hollows/negative spaces/chiaroscuro to begin with) - is always possible: the animating force is the speaking/compositing eye of the historiographer, i.e. narrative (or apophenia).

The Language of Liars Review – acwise.net

I just posted a review of The Language of Liars by @slhuang.com, an excellent and intricately built novella, which comes out this Tuesday!

Oh you’re Catholic and you disagree with the Pope? Maybe you should make a list of all the things you disagree with. Really dig deep, make it a nice long list. 95 seems like a good number. And then post that list somewhere he can see it, like maybe nailed to a church door.

You might as well attempt to string 60,000 words together because what else do you have going on?

My Miyazaki Top 5:

- Howl’s Moving Castle
- Nausicaa
- Porco Rosso
- Kiki’s Delivery Service
- Whisper of the Heart (screenplay)

I’d also like to mention the short film/music video On Your Mark, just as devastating as his feature films. Like a good short story, it knows how to cut fast and deep.

A very special call: Over our 20 (!) years we’ve published stories from all the continents of the world, except Antarctica. We want to remedy that.

We’re looking for stories between 2000–6000 words from writers who are in, have recently been to, or have plans to visit Antarctica in the near future.

As a friendly reminder, I'm campaigning for fan writer. But also there are a ton of great BIPOC folks writing thoughtfully and creatively about SFF/H eligible for nomination. Nominate diversely.
