Me: what you need to know is watching Atreyu plead with Artax as Artax sinks "You’re letting the sadness of the swamps get to you. You have to try. You have to care. For me." was *devastating* and like all 80s-90s kids carry this scar. They showed it in my kindergarten. More than once

her: wtf

I have described my mental health as this exact scene on more than one occasion. The only reason alarms bells didn't go off for my therapist, is she is young and wasn't emotionally wrecked by this film as a child 😂

For those who missed it: this was the moment The Strokes ensured they’ll never be invited back to Coachella again! I'm so proud of them

Detail of realistic portrait of Prince, focusing on his face. The portrait is all embroidered.

A detail of the density of stitching to create shading and hair texture. It is hard to photograph (on my wall with a phone) as it is 3-D to some extent due to the way it is stitched.

She had a whole show in 2016 of pop portraits in embroidery, that is where this Prince one came from. I so so badly wanted so many but had just finished grad school and moved across the country. Then a few years ago she had a studio sale and had kept Prince. I have never contacted someone so fast 😂

Detail of half of Prince’s face, chest, and arm done as a realistic portrait out of embroidery.

It is kind of 3-D because of the way it is stitched (and hard to portray the stitch textures used for hair)

Nicole O'Loughlin Nicole O'Loughlin is a visual artist who works in textiles, and painting.

This work is about 2.5 feet tall. I highly recommend checking out her other works (I wanted all the ones from this series. It was pure luck that I got this one years later) www.nicoleoloughlin.com

Purple velvet bordered with gold fringe. On top of that a white, also bordered with gold fringe and pointed at the bottom fabric. An embroidered 3/4 length portrait of Prince in a black speedo, hands behind his head and surrounded by flowers.

In honor of the anniversary of Prince’s passing, behold the incredible hand embroidered artwork by artist Nicole O’Loughlin that hangs in my living room

Trying to figure out the professional way to fill in my “work goals” and this year’s addition of requiring an AI goal and metrics that isn’t just: NA, I work on physical materials and this is stupid.

Maybe just the first part?

Sorry, Virginia: SantaCon Is a Con, Feds Say SantaCon's organizer allegedly raised $2.7 million, but only donated "a small fraction" of that amount to charity.

Many readers may be shocked to learn that an event largely consisting of Fireball consumption and "sexy elf" jumpsuits may not be the shining charitable enterprise it pledged to be, but warning signs did exist.

Oh whats that? I even filled them. Mascarpone honey hibiscus filling. My ego is through the roof.

The joys of a pantry full of weird stuff. Powdered honey, this could be your moment! Or disaster. Only one way to find out.

My mom's friend graciously gave me a one-on-one workshop in making macrons last weekend. Now I am about to give it a try with the blind confidence of a mediocre man that has failed up his entire life. Sure I did it last weekend, but what if I tried this, this, and this for flavoring!

Every so often I have a dream that I am wandering the aisle of a video store trying to make my weekend selections. Going into pretty much any record store has a similar vibe. Flip through the bins, maybe crack a joke with the person next to you, possibly emerge with treasure. 10000/10

Went to the record store where I left all my babysitting and after school job money in high school while visiting family last week. The city has changed a lot, but that place remains the same and I love every inch of it. Also found some good stuff.
