Well... there is also a chance that nothing the doctors try would work too. There just isn't a guarantee of that happening. Regardless, having any degree of resistance to any kind of medicine will make a persons life notably more difficult than it could be.
A resistance or tolerance to anesthesia doesn't mean you're immune to it. The doctors would just have to find one that works, or give a stronger than normal dose

The fact Chuck Jones made a literal formula/rule list dictating how the Road Runner cartoons functioned is probably a big reason to why they were so effective... and honestly, the rules that were set are kind of brilliant!
