Haven’t flown in a few weeks, grabbed the DA40 to do a couple hours’ work, and … spent that time at the airport dragging it back up a hill to the ramp. One CHT was high during taxi and kept climbing, I finally shut off the engine as CHT neared 500F. Possible sensor error, but not taking chances.

Classic case of, “nothing is too good for our troops, so that’s what they’ll get”

Sorry, I meant that I need to get back to the bench, but also noting that the airbrush cleaner is essentially the same as the glue, per MSDS. Did not mean to hijack or otherwise change the conversation. Apologies!

Adam, you’ve triggered me - I need to get back to the workbench! But you should know that you can use the airbrush cleaner, it’s 1% off and cheaper in bulk…

I should have read the full alt text, which shared some of this history, but I was so excited to see her again! For much of 1998, I “lived” in the HI on Dixon Rd and drove past her daily, she made me smile every damned day. I was thrilled when I heard she had a new life in Seattle. ✈️❤️

Growing up, there was a section of highway on the west side of the airport, under the final approach path. We used to love parking under it and lying on the car hood and looking up - best date night! I miss when flying was a romantic notion, but I love how it’s become real and I get to do it.

Paper coffee cups are over 100 years old, so definitely in use in 60s. *How* popular, not so certain, but not an anachronism!

It was, indeed, and I had an instructor next to me to witness! He got me into that method, made me realize that too much focus on V speeds had me chasing the plane, so instead I flew to the touchdown point and used throttle to adjust vertical speed. Short field practice is next!

Last time I did pattern work (2 wks) I focused on flying, not panel work; it was amazing how much smoother things got. My advice? Keep the TD point in the same spot, power and pitch as needed. I quit looking at manifold pressure and just flew, greased best landing in yrs after 2 days of sloppy work…

You’re worrying too much, but that’s good right now. Overestimating abilities during primary instruction leads to hard-to-break bad habits. I’ve a couple hundred hours and an instrument rating and still get told the same! Remember the old/bold pilot adage and go fly…no substitute for experience!

On the other end of the spectrum was my O Chem teacher, who taught the three consecutive steps to making trinitrotoluene. Included the first step on a quiz, even…

I love that people think we’re not already having sex in space. I get that actual procreation will be less facile, but you know there’s already been space fuckin’.

Had a dentist appointment today and while trimming the moustache (nobody needs to deal with Ultra Sea Urchin just to fix some old teeth) the Tripod came up and *nudged* me. Quite literally I have a half-inch narrower moustache because CAT.

I mean, who *didn’t* sneakily read mom’s copy of Wifey. Or even the Dr. Spock book. Reading “too adult” is absolutely an education and should be encouraged, not just allowed.

Checked out in the DA40 finally, now on to prepping for my IPC. Anyone who’s done similar, please advise, I’m expecting a busy couple of months brushing off the rust and getting current!

Enjoy! I’m out for this one, I wanted to do an homage to my first solo on Bastille Day (‘99) but I’m actually focusing right now on l instrument proficiency training at 1/1 scale, so no modeling right now. Jealous - looks like so much fun!

Got to go flying with a friend in an Ercoupe today! A far cry from the DA40 but so much fun, and such a great plane. Ear-to-ear grin, and I gotta get me one…

Tonight at dinner, fam mentioned that a judge halted RFKJ’s anti-vaccine policies and that one argument to the judge was that RFKJ has unreviewable authority. Got to talking about claims of absolute power and I pointed out that today is the 58th anniversary of the My Lai massacre. Parenting win?

That….that looks huge, but awesome. I have the Signifer 1/48 kit in the stash, so luckily I don’t need to rush out and grab that one!

Finally got the flu out of the house and got to go flying again! Spent a couple of hours doing more transition work in the DA40, mostly stalls and landings. However, today marks the first time I’ve ever been FOURTH in the pattern, it was *crowded* up there today!

People get pissed and shoot each other for taking a parking spot. What do you think they’re going to feel when you blow up their kids, their cars, their schools, their homes, and their economy? Probably not gratitude.

I’ve seen a few framed kits that were finished on the sprues, I kinda want to try that as a first attempt of the on-spruce process and *then* focus on the assembly and touch up phases…
