When reporting and writing this story, I learned so much about why parrotfish are AMAZING. Thanks to @kt-cramer.bsky.social @lalvarezfilip.bsky.social @anysunreef.bsky.social and @ichnologist.bsky.social for their research and perspectives on these funny fishes!

Happy to have been interviewed for part of @lisasgardiner.bsky.social's @sciencenews.bsky.social article about my favorite bioeroding & carbonate-sand-pooping fishes, parrotfishes; also includes keen insights from Drs. Katie Cramer & Ana Molina Hernández. www.snexplores.org/article/parr... 🧪🐠🪸🏖️

🐠🦈 Just out: In this paper we ask "How has reef trophic structure changed since humans started removing predatory fishes from Caribbean coral reefs?".

#CoralReefs are facing increased stress due to warming, acidification, and extreme weather — leading to more frequent bleaching and broader ecological impacts.
Join us May 16 to learn about research to preserve #reefs and make them more resilient:

This is a huge loss for NSF and for the research community. Thank you so much Jeremy for your thoughtful input, kindness, and support as a Program Officer at HEGS. You continue to inspire and motivate this first time NSF grantee.
If you're an NSF PI like me, you might be wondering: Will my grant be suspended or terminated next week?
A few key things to know: First off, remember that NSF is **congressionally mandated** to evaluate broader impacts. And laws like CHIPS and Science supersede EOs.

A lot of work on fisheries and nutrition (including my own) has looked at the nutrient content of fish catches. This paper finds important differences between the nutrients available in coral reef ecosystems and what is captured by fishers. 🦑🧪🐠
