Great tool here to fight back against misinformation around the Cowichan ruling, DRIPA, and other tropes used against First Nations folks. dripafacts.ca/en/

B.C. loves to say it has the cleanest natural gas in the world, but the truth is — well, more like the complete opposite of that.
a real banger of an investigation at @thenarwhal.ca today by @writermjs.bsky.social & Wil Crisp. thenarwhal.ca/lng-canada-b...
"Companies are more than willing to take Albertan resources for profit, only to avoid the cost of cleaning up their contaminated sites through bankruptcy. This isn’t an anomaly — at this point, it seems to be their business model…not the first case…nor will it be the last”

...If history is any indication, there is a high risk these corporations will just hoover up such tax cuts and consumers will see no impact at the pump (anyone seeing and feeling their carbon tax cut these days?)...
It's a good thing we have an economic genius like Mark Carney in power so that we can use fiscal tools to encourage people to buy more of a good which is in shortage.
- Increases and prolongs reliance on fossil (so next crisis hurts even more)
- Often doesn't pass through to consumers (fossil co's just pocket it)
- Benefits enjoyed more by the rich (who drive bigger cars longer distances)
- Decreases gov't revenue so you end up paying for it in different ways
Last year the Carney government defunded the Canada Greener Homes Loan program which provides zero interest financing for various home energy retrofits. Each $6000 invested in the program unlocked $40,000 of private money, acting as an accelerator for clean electricity.
So far this government has:
- removed EV mandates (and moreover paused rebates to stall the market)
- removed carbon tax
- removed low carbon electricity policy
- removed gasoline tax
- removed oil and gas cap
when does the Canadian Federal government do climate policy?
The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. Clockwise from top left: 1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.” 2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”. 3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.” 4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.
A couple weeks ago, Nicholas Keung at the Toronto Star reported on how generative AI is being used to assess immigration applications in Canada...and how it's led to refusals because of stuff the AI tool added in, that humans (clearly) failed to check.

anyone who says people opposing data centers are just nimbys need to stop echoing industry propaganda and see what it’s actually like to live near one

The world's getting awfully big in the window...
Coming up on T-minus four hours to splashdown.

Beaverton article headline titled "here's why avi lewis is the wrong choice to lead the ndp, by a centrist liberal"
Lol thebeaverton.com/2026/03/edit...
The headline from a national observer opinion piece titled "The NDP had its moment and missed it"

This, from @nationalobserver.com is quite literally a @thebeaverton.com article from 2 weeks ago. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/04/08/o...
Two identical pictures of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The first has text: "Shares feel good zoom call with Canadian astronaut as public relations exercise." The second has different text: "Cut's funding for Canadian Space Agency by 32.6%"
A lot of Canucks feel pride at a Canadian astronaut on a moon mission. The Carney government is milking this opportunity to associate itself with those good feelings while cutting nearly a third of all funding for Canada's space agency.
www.canada.ca/en/treasury-...
I know Carney is conservative. But accepting this floor crossing shows an absolutely astonishing deficit in values and judgement
ah yes a tent so big that even conspiracy theorists and pro conversion therapy pushers are welcome into LPC caucus
I guess Carney has zero standards.
A list of Gladu's greatest hits:
1) opposing cannabis legalization, she read a poem in the House urging MPs to "keep our great country safe from all the weed."
2) in 2020, she suggested using the military to end pipeline protests...

[alt text by NASA] The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraft’s solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA
Whoa 🤯
The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...
something strange and horrible and somehow fitting that we should have a very real threat of madman civilizational destruction at the very moment when we also have humans on the dark side of the moon taking pictures that show how small, precious, and beautiful our world and existence is
Oh this is great: there’s now an #Artemis II Lunar Flyby Gallery on the NASA images site: www.nasa.gov/gallery/luna... (thx @dpmanchee.bsky.social for pointing it out)
New Earthset image! Unreal 🤩
Just gorgeous images to look at on the NASA Johnson Flickr this morning www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
Jeremy Hansen should have replied, "Je ne parle pas anglais".
View of the spacecraft (bright, on the left), a dark thin crescent of Moon, and a very small, bright thin crescent of Earth next to it
"Orion, the Moon, and the Earth. EVERYONE, in that picture" - #Artemis II Mission Control.
This might be the MOST STUNNING photo from Artemis II yet
Crescent Earth illuminated by light above 🤩

Absolutely incredible Nutella ad.
This is so cool, during the lunar flyby the astronauts are just looking out the windows, taking pictures, and describing stuff they see back to the science team at mission control. Like this is a critical component of the scientific mission, "I see a thing!" and then others will analyze it.
