Speaking from personal experience, I wasn’t ready to jump from my BA to PhD program; the MA was essential preparation – I’d never have survived and would have flamed out without it.
The terminal MA is much more of a thing here in 🇨🇦, and has the benefit of providing students with the opportunity to sample graduate study, to determine whether or not it suits them and aligns with their aspirations/expectations.
Also in open access is Brendan Haug’s Garden of Egypt (doi.org/10.3998/mpub...), an award-winning work of environmental history which discusses historical relationships between the Fayum’s inhabitants and their unique landscape. Canal maintenance was a collective responsibility, too.

That’s a shame, especially inasmuch as it raises the question of the preferred markup (e.g., @n, @xml:id, etc.)
I am now strangely consumed by the desire to know my number…
It seems like yesterday I was a very green and wet-behind-the-ears visitor to the Temple campus – enjoy your well-deserved reprieve! γῆρας γὰρ ἥβης ἐστὶν ἐνδικώτερον.

Spent some time playing with xsl:merge and its children yesterday, and am both certain that this is one of those functions that's going to make life a whole lot easier and embarrased not to have toyed with it sooner.

Definitely not the ‘they’ in question, but some of us _like_ dirty hands and esp. talking to devs.
Congratulations to Brendan Haug, author of "Garden of Egypt," on winning the 2025 American Society of Papyrologists inaugural Book Prize!
I learned gobs from Elisa and David at DHSI, and continue to apply those lessons on a regular basis wrangling XML for papyri.info. Cannot recommend highly enough.
If Euripides is Wario (and he is), then Sophocles is Mario. That means Aeschylus is… Donkey Kong?
Fittingly, ἁμαξηλάτης, -ου, ὁ is best suited to dochmiacs, the quintessentially tragic metrical colon.
Can't wait to read everyone's tuppence on which tragedian is which character and what kind of cart each drives, their preferred tracks, etc.
🚨 SAUVONS LES ÉTUDES CLASSIQUES ET MÉDIÉVALES À L’UNIVERSITÉ DE CALGARY ! 🚨
L’administration universitaire a rejeté un programme innovant élaboré de bonne foi par le corps professoral, invoquant des contraintes budgétaires.
Cette décision supprimerait la majeure en lettres classiques à Calgary!

papyri.info would absolutely go for `lem|rdg` elements under a parent `app` element, but there will be some conversation whether `app[@type="alternative"]` or `app[@type="editorial"]` is optimal. The latter is preferred if `@resp` is to be assigned to the various `lem` elements.
Dr. No Job works for this, too.
New issue of the Bulletin of the American Society of Papyrologists, edited by @sofiatorallas.bsky.social , with contributions on literary papyri from @theonash.bsky.social and myself.
Institutional pressure re: storage limits forced me to deal with precisely this issue recently, and I was luckily able to scrub the version history for files more than 3 months old via OneDrive. Image-intensive pptx files (for teaching & conferences) were taking up literal GBs each 😳
View of a snow-filled street from a second story window, with snow clogging much of the window screen.
‘Snow days are way more fun for kids than for grownups’, he realized to his dismay.
I ❤️ the first four items on this list so, so much — what I’d give for a proper glimpse at Republican tragedy
