100% despite the pain of being held to account after making an error that the vast majority of the public wouldn’t have been stupid enough to make, I get the feeling they prefer it to actually addressing the issues that the public face in their daily lives.

There’ll be no respite with the imminent local election wipeout being just a couple of weeks away.
How much parliamentary time (rightly) has had to be spent on this at the cost of where parliamentary time should be focused - on addressing the spiralling cost of living crisis?!
Either been used intentionally to heighten the effect of the point she was trying to make or a complete oversight and very naive to not understand the potential effect it could have.
Either way, it’s language that’s not just unbecoming of a Green councillor, but any councillor for that matter.
A seemingly compromised opinion which seeks to “other” rather than “unite”, whilst being completely at odds with Green values.
True and yes was referring more towards road bikes in my point so should have been more specific.
Burned his political capital.
Burned society’s most vulnerable.
Burned various political pawns to save his skin.
And now torched any credibility he may have once had.
Same with bikes where brands release a new model each year claiming it’s faster than its predecessor. And tbh there’s some truth in it as bikes are more efficient and faster than cars in built up environments.
Hard agree and anyone who disagrees (especially those in prominent political positions) don’t care one iota about road safety.
Always prompts counter measures just to tie up loose ends.
“Unpopular opinion” is putting it extremely kindly.
85% of adult cyclists already hold a driving licence
Mandatory bike registration schemes get quickly scrapped as minimal benefits fall well short of justifying administration costs.
And then this:

So, almost a week in Andalusia, not one single close pass or any instance of careless/dangerous driving and I’ve ridden all but 1 day so far.
In the UK, I average 3 (prosecutable) close passes every 20km. That’s before you add on the rest I.e. Left/right hooks, overtakes on a bend, etc.
The route profile for the Clasica Torredonjimeno that flew past earlier today.
Bloody hell, got out for a morning ride doing the Ventas loop and totally didn’t realise there was a bike race going through - Clasica Torredonjimeno. Just got back with about 15/20 mins to spare before the race went past.
Brutal route profile.

100% and this attitude is present in a lot of drivers. That’s failure on the part of such individuals and failure of the state for not just allowing it to happen, but to go much further, letting it manifest as a cultural norm.
Professional footballers feign injury.
Professional cyclists feign good health.
Keir Starmer feigns anger, after yet another completely self inflicted disasterclass.
“A missed opportunity” or even more aptly - a series of missed opportunities. The wide consensus on the gov’s weak, watered down and ultimately looking the other way Road Safety Strategy.
The focus on BBC breakfast today being young drivers and not implementing graduated driving licences.
Picture of my Cannondale Supersix Evo sat in a hand crafted wheel & truing stand, in it’s natural habitat, rural Andalusia.
It begins 🇪🇸 🏔️ (yes it’s a hand crafted wooden wheel stand also designed for wheel truing).
Humbling first ride as I’d forgotten how brutal the surrounding terrain is. Couldn’t ask for a better bike to help make the gradients bearable.
When a Labour politician says “only Labour can beat Reform”, the Green Party wins. Please deluded Labour MP’s, keep trotting out this phrase. It will continue to expose how haplessly out of touch you are with reality and especially so with the British Public.
The shameless Herald, who let Kevin Mckenna publish a piece advocating for transferring rage onto cyclists.
Another gutter press establishment who’ll prioritise optimising SM engagement over the wellbeing of people cycling.
No surprise that they happily publish anti-cycling nonsense from bigots.
Fully agreed and long past time that such a rule is legislated.
An absolute must watch finale at Tour of the Basque Country and the race specialist himself - Alex Aranburu hitting the afterburners on a gruelling punchy climb. Enjoyed every second of that.
Brilliant bike racing at Tour of the Basque Country. Various riders in the super break having their bid for glory. Lots of potential scenarios still in play.
Sadly so, repeat offences should alert the authorities to the fact she’s unfit to hold a driving licence. But she’ll keep getting another chance (because she’s a celebrity and a motorist) until her actions lead to serious injury or worse.
Yes there’s been lots of really bad crashes, still the most horrific one (by Optics) was in the AlUla Tour. Illnesses have been present as well.
Trek have had a miserable time so far this year. Lots of key riders in the team suffering crashes and missing time in their recovery.
They’re what I refer to as “creepers”. Allergic to sitting stationary due to their habitual impatience. Some of the worst do this at traffic lights. By the time the lights turn green they can’t see them change, so end up delaying themselves and everyone else.
Labour loves nothing more than pointing a loaded shotgun at their foot and pressing the trigger. Reload, repeat. Each time ushering more of their dwindling voter base towards the Greens.
When the local elections arrive, it will be near wipeout.
Labour are like really bad drivers, they never learn.
When extremely soft operant conditioning fails repeatedly, you need to remove the stimuli altogether, along with all driving privileges for life.
Yes it could very much apply to the BBC too. An organisation that lost it’s moral compass a long time ago.
Likeky to be heavily influenced by hostile and incessant toxic media discourse towards cycling. Which then drives false equivalence discourse, whilst triggering confirmation bias in anecdotal experiences.
Road surfaces are in a shocking state and I’ve seen a few mammoth potholes on recent journeys. Significant cognitive load with everything to contend with in order to stay safe. I’m the same and always on guard with close passes. It’s not just what’s ahead of you that commands your attention.
