This is amazing, Geoff. Thanks for making these materials available. Will point my students in this direction when they have math stuff come up!

Extension of Compliance Dates for Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities By this Interim Final Rule ("IFR"), the Department of Justice ("Department") is revising the regulations implementing title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA") to extend the compliance d...

So many meme'able thoughts about today's extension of the Title II compliance deadline. It's some mixture of "laughing rich guys," "Ben Affleck smoking," and "bad luck Brian."

They lost Andre. You just can’t lose Andre.

The Martian sucked, IMO. I never made it to any of Weir’s other stuff.

Fun scam call this morning: “we’re calling to collect on [auto loan paid off two months ago].“ It’s a clever idea for a scam, but the poor woman didn’t know I’m in full-on registration rage mode this morning.

To be clear, I don’t blame the players for wanting to draw out the rest of their games! It’s a rational response to the situation.

What bothers me is entities like chesscom trying to turn a quietly energetic game into a spectacle. It’s fighting against the nature of things.

This kind of draw-fest is almost impossible to avoid in any event that is a “coming-out party” for an under-rated player (Sindarov). No amount of spectacle or finagling with tourney rules can change that.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

There will be maybe one or two more decisive games in the Candidates. Sindarov’s victory is all but assured, and thus, “rooting” for someone is at this point silly. There will be tense battles, but I expect conservatism to win the day. This is in the nature of chess and the nature of this tourney.

Watching and reflecting on the end of #FIDECandidates, I’m struck by the massive difference between this event and those of the “chess entrepreneurs“ like chesscom, EWC, etc. Chess has an essence—a nature—and so many of the latter are trying to make chess something it’s not.

CHM 112 Homework 2

"The initial concentration of each reactant is equal to the fourth and fifth digits of your Student ID Number divided by 10^5..."

That's actually brilliant. 😂 Old-school randomization.

The President of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes and wipe out a "whole civilization" — all because he started a disastrous war of his own making and had no plan and no strategy for how to end it.

This is abhorrent, and the American people do not support this.

11 Ne4!? cleverly avoids a minor piece trade. If 11…Qf5 then 12 Ng3.

14…Ba5!? with the idea of …Bb6 to pressure d4. White responds 15 Bb5 and would love to trade off the c6 knight.

And finally 17 d5! happens at the perfect time.

Republicans in the House and Senate: impeach and convict and remove this deranged man.

You have blood on your hands already and you are about to have a lot more. Trump is destroying this country and he’s not stopping there.

You cowards. You worthless power-hungry cowards.

Now that I look at this game, Wei Yi beat himself. Pounded out a bunch of obvious computer moves until his memory or preparation ran out, and then immediately blundered.

Feel bad for him, but not a smart approach with black against the clear favorite IMHO.

What Do Premeds (and Bio Majors) Need to Know of Organic Chemistry? Premeds and bio majors realistically need only one semester of organic chemistry. Therefore, a concise but rigorous new textbook, Principles of Organic Chemistry, is being published.

Perrin argues that pre-medical students need only one semester of organic chemistry and an enhanced education in biochemistry. It's a compelling argument minus the baked-in ad for his own textbook. #chemsky #chemchat

Y’all, I loved Atlanta.

Last week was my first visit & everyone was SO nice.

Public transit was GREAT! I stayed in Decatur & the Marta was so fast! The busses & tram downtown were great too. A week without a car in ATL was easy.

Visiting the MLK NHP will stick with me. So much history in Atlanta!
