The combination of tough exoskeleton, dense, sand-resisting fur and the historical rarity of textiles lead to clothing being less important to excation, usually only being worn for specific practical or stylistic purposes.

Excation communication relies partially on radio waves produced in their partially mineralised brains. These tichakaulun, or “brain rocks” produce the phenomena known as kantakra, or “the link”

The excation are the only known extant sophont species on Kalem. A compact people, averaging at 4.5 feet tall, the Excation are well adapted for living in the mountains of Kalem’s habitable zone deserts, with large eyes and efficient gas exchange organs attached to their head

Kalem is a planet in milky way, though its exact location is kept secret for now. It orbits the red dwarf star known as ‘Via’ to which it is tidally locked, resulting in it having a bright side and a dark side of wildly differing temperatures
