We asked @dremmanicholls.bsky.social what exactly needs to happen for dinosaur footprints to be preserved like those found in Oxfordshire.

The answer is such a specific set of circumstances you'll be amazed that any have been found at all...

At first I read that as meaning “say hello in Hall 3, please bring us coffee”! Maybe that reflects my energy levels rather than yours?! 😆

Love this conference quote just now by dinosaur palaeontologist Gregory Funston:

“It can be hard to tell which is the [front] end of an oviraptorid skull”

Haha… yep!! 😆

Huge dinosaur trackway uncovered in the UK - BBC News One of the longest sets of dinosaur footprints in the world has been discovered in a limestone quarry

Great article on the Oxfordshire sauropod trackway, with contributions from @dremmanicholls.bsky.social, Prof. Kirsty Edgar and @peterfalkingham.com, who also made the excellent animation. Check out the overhead shot too - very cool 🦕

📢Calling all natural historians!

This year our Summer Meeting is exploring the ✨senses✨

So we want to hear from you! We're looking for papers that explore the intersections of the senses - including sight, sound, smell, taste and touch - with the history of natural history.

🥳 HAPPY IGUANODON DAY! 🥳

It was the 2nd dinosaur scientifically named & described, & presented to the Royal Society 200 years ago today!

It’s 1 of 3 animals upon which the group ‘Dinosauria’ itself was first based 💪

Visit OUMNH to see more on this fantastic #dinosaur!

In the background is an out of focus laptop keyboard. In the foreground a hand hold a moth on a pin. The moth has a brown body, fluffy thorax and head. Its wings are folded back in a lifelike resting pose so you can only see the forewings. The pattern on these wings is composed of browns and yellows in soft blocks and lines with marks that almost look like the outline of eyes towards the wingtips. Over this are light swirls of white and pale pink. This moth is beautiful.

For #FossilFriday here is one of my favourite pterosaurs, Istiodactylus, from the Cretaceous of the UK

Their razor-edged, interlocking teeth are thought to have helped deflesh carcasses, basically the Cretaceous equivalent of vultures!
